Hearthstone’s Undertaker gets a nerf: no more health buff

Blizzard have handed down another nerf smackdown to a card in the Hearthstone game, finally making it a little less of a pain to go up against. The card in the firing line this time? Undertaker.

Previously the Undertaker’s card text read “Whenever you summon a minion with Deathrattle gain +1/+1” which in special Deathrattle decks could lead to an Undertaker getting buffed to hell in one turn. Blizzard have now revised it to merely “Whenever you summon a minion with Deathrattle, gain +1 Attack”. This means while it will still be a powerful card if played right, its less of a fully-armed fortress and more of a glass cannon now.

Blizzard’s community manager Zeriyah explained the need to make the change saying “Undertaker was frustrating to play against. It often gained both Attack and Health stats significantly above those of other inexpensive minions very early in the game. With this change, we expect Undertaker will still be better than other 1-Mana minions when played in a deck with a Deathrattle theme, but more likely to die in combat against other minions.”

The Undertaker’s been a bit of an issue for a few months, having been released in the Naxxramas event and some of the cards included in December’s expansion, Goblins vs. Gnomes were noticeably set up to counter Deathrattles in an attempt to solve the problem. Seems it wasn’t enough though so the Undertaker’s health buff had to go.
