HTC Vive dev kits sent out to game developers

HTC’s Vive VR headset still has some things to prove if it’s ever going to be a contender with the second generation of Oculus’ well-known Rift headset, but they’re beginning now to send out developer kits to certain people to allow for the games to be developed for their headset.

The Vive is of course a joint venture between HTC and Valve’s SteamVR technology and the developer kit comes with a Vive headset, two Lighthouse base stations which pick up the signals from the two wireless Steam VR controllers to allow for the virtualisation of hand movements within the virtual reality setting and further adds to the sense of player immersion. The kit also contains cables and instructions to help developers along with their games before the Vive ships out to consumers later this year.

Limited numbers of the dev kits have been sent out, with recipients including major film studios and game developers both of the AAA standard and smaller indies who are newer to game development.
