Oculus have been building the second version of their popular Oculus Rift VR headset for a while now, with devkits having already been sold and distributed around the world. In some cases they've had to stop distributing to some parts because of resellers.

Now Oculus have announced the system requirements they recommend to get the "full Rift experience" on a computer. They're quite high but not so high that they'd only work on the toppest end of computers.

Here's the list in case you're interested:

  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer

“The goal is for all Rift games and applications to deliver a great experience on this configuration,” reads the Oculus blog post. “Ultimately, we believe this will be fundamental to VR’s success, as developers can optimize and tune their game for a known specification, consistently achieving presence and simplifying development.”

Oculus hope to hold this configuration throughout the device's lifetime and will eventually drop in price as time goes on.

The Oculus Rift is expected to launch early 2016.
