Multiplayer Shooter Squad Is Having A Free Weekend And Is On Sale Right Now

Squad is a very large-scale multiplayer shooter game that’s currently in Steam’s Early Access program. It aims to simulate realistic modern warfare in which both sides have fairly large sides and you need to be constantly vigilanet (with respawning obviously helping to make it seem like both armies are larger than they really are). The game is a spiritual successor to a widely-loved mod for Battlefield 2, Project Reality, and the indie studio behind it grew from the Project Reality team.

Now the game is going to have its first ever free weekend in a bid to attract the players numbers needed to make such large-scale battles work, because you can’t have a fight with 100 players if not that many people are around to join games after all. The game will remain like this until Sunday, November 13th at 1pm Pacific Time, or 9pm UK time. The game is also currently on sale at half its usual selling price and that will last even longer – until Monday 10am Pacific or 5pm UK time.

If you’re not familiar with Squad already, it features vehicle-based combat, combined arms gameplay, large-scale battle environments, voice audio proximity for talking and radio chatter and even base building so you can set up camp. If that sounds like something you could get into, check out Squad’s Steam page to try it out. Then if you like it, take advantage of the £14.99 UK or $19.99 US price to keep it for good.

Dishonored 2 Appears To Suffer From Serious Performance Issues On Launch

dishonored-2

Dishonored 2 is a hotly anticipated game, thats for sure. A handful of gamers have been able to play it a day early, including myself. I am sad to say however, that the PC version of the game has excessively bad performance issues. While I could detail them all in text, video speaks louder than words.

Gamer’s refund demonstrates the ridiculousness of Infinite Warfare’s situation

COD: Infinite Warfare’s not had a great launch. After the news that the included Modern Warfare Remastered game wouldn’t work without the Infinite Warfare disc for those who had bought the physical copies of the double-game set, it was revealed that for some reason Activision was against cross-platform play. Xbox One and Windows Store players cannot play together and neither can Windows Store and Steam players.

The utter ridiculousness of the situation has just been highlighted in the news that one Windows Store gamer has managed to get a refund on his game. The reason? Because when he went to look for a Deathmatch game he discovered that very few other players were also currently online in the world. How many other players? One.

That’s right. He was one of only two players in the world at that moment looking for an online match.

No matter what you think of Windows Store, you’ve got to admit that Activision’s decision to disallow any sort of cross-platform or even cross-digital distribution interaction is not helping Infinite Warfare any – and this is the game that’s been pretty much an unfavoured child to the series ever since the fans first saw its announcement trailer.

No wonder they wouldn’t allow people to trade in the disc.

Turtle Rock release unfinished L4D campaign for play

After the cancellation of Evolve’s support by their publisher 2K, developers Turtle Rock Studios seem to have had a little spare time. They’ve used the time to do up and release an unfinished campaign for the original Left 4 Dead game that was scrapped before the game’s release as an add-on in 2008.

The Dam It campaign (which shares its name with an unrelated single-map mod released in 2009 by Tom Baldry) is a multi-map stroyline that takes the four players of the game from a crashed C-130 plane on an airfield to a hydro-electric damn, fighting zombies all along the way. The developers had intended the finale of the campaign to be different to the other campaigns by having the party needing to be split instead of all focused in one spot fighting off waves in a hold-off until time has elapsed situation. Other elements include an apple orchard, a graveyard of crawling zombies, a ravine and even a set of fuel storage building that would trigger alarms if fire-based weapons were used inside – bringing the zombies right towards you.

Obviously as an old scrapped campaign, you can expect a few things not be working fully. The fire alarms for example aren’t fully implemented. The maps are playable though and mostly completed, so getting them to work isn’t going to be a big issue. If you fancy giving it a go with some friends, grab the download here.

Steam Halloween Sale is now on!

Halloween is coming up, and Steam are celebrating by holding a Sale. As they do.

The Steam Halloween Sale is focused on (you guessed it) games that are meant to terrify, scare and creep the living daylights out of you as you play. The thrill of the chase, the chill of the scare… you get the idea. There are also some Halloween updates to non-horror games in there as well, if you want to spookify some other games instead of getting scared silly. Also, halloween movies.

Classics like Limbo, FEAR and others are on offer, as well as things like the Five Nights at Freddy’s series and Outlast which have been quite popular for Let’s Players on Youtube. Especially around this time of year. The horror movie selection is also full of classic like the Saw series, American Werewolf in London and so on.

If you fancy checking out the deals, be quick. They’ll only last until 10am PT November 1st.
