Blizzard to reclaim inactive WoW account character names

World of Warcraft has now been around for about ten years. In that time a lot of accounts have been created and with it, a lot of characters too. That means a lot of names so creating new ones must see some difficulties in getting a unique name on your character.

However Blizzard are planning to fix this by reclaiming character names from accounts that have been inactive for a period. The reclaim will come with the implementation of patch 6.2.

The accounts will be ones that haven’t been accessed since December 7th 2010, so if you’ve any names you’d want to keep on an old account make sure you log in before June 24th to be able to keep them.

“Our goal with this great name liberation is to make sure new and returning players have a large and varied pool of names available to choose from,” Blizzard wrote on the World of Warcraft blog. “So log in now if you wish to preserve your unused characters’ names for your ongoing journey through Draenor.”

Game Trailer: Perception Gameplay Trailer

Currently a Kickstarter for a first-person horror game that involves a blind girl is drawing to a close. It has said girl exploring through a haunted manor and to help push towards that goal of $150,000 the developers, Deep End Games, have released a new game play trailer.

Cassie, the girl in the game uses a form of echolocation to help her find the way around the world and it sounds like a decent concept for the game. Another gameplay mode called ‘Mode 7’ will also be unveiled by the developers as part of this last push towards target.

The Kickstarter wraps at 6am PDT June 25th. Click the link below if you’re interested in backing.

Windows Preview owners will be allowed to upgrade

Windows 10 has been a fairly popular topic of discussion for the last year or so, mainly down to the fact that Microsoft seem to be pushing its advantages to all and sundry. One of the biggest points to entice users has been the free upgrade to Windows 10 if you own windows 7 or Windows 8.1 already.

But what about the rest? Well now there’s a way for you to get a free update too, and it’s been promoted by Microsoft themselves.

Windows10_1

A post on Microsoft’s windows Blog detailed the way how, which involves downloading and installing the Windows 10 Preview Build and registering it to your Microsoft account so you can get the upgrade.

“Windows Insiders running the Windows 10 Insider Preview (Home and Pro editions) with their registered MSA connected to their PC will receive the final release build of Windows 10 starting on July 29th. This will come as just another flight. I’ve gotten a lot of questions from Windows Insiders about how this will work if they clean installed from ISO. As long as you are running an Insider Preview build and connected with the MSA you used to register, you will receive the Windows 10 final release build and remain activated. Once you have successfully installed this build and activated, you will also be able to clean install on that PC from final media if you want to start over fresh.”

This does of course mean that you also need to sign up to the Windows Insider program, but it’s up to you whether you think that is a price too steep for the free OS.

£2 million reached: Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter ends

Playtonic Games are a fairly new game studio formed of old hands in the gaming industry. Ex-Rare employees responsible for parts of some of the N64 90s lineup of fondly remembered games, they set out to create a modern game that harkened back to those golden days. They chose to give Banjo and Kazooie successors in the form of lizard Yooka and bat Laylee.

And it paid off massively.

The Kickstarter reached its target in under an hour, it reached £1 million in a matter of days. Now almost 50 days later the Kickstarter has finally closed with every stretch goal met comfortably, pulling in a staggering £2,090,104 together. And the Paypal donation link is still open.

Posting their thanks on the Kickstarter page the team spoke to their backers:

“47 days ago we started this Kickstarter campaign – our first Kickstarter – with little idea of what we were letting ourselves in for… Through these past 47 days we’ve felt an incredible level of positive support from everyone, whether they opted to back us or not. For that, we are extremely grateful!”

The post concluded by saying that the game was aimed for a rough release time of the end of 2016 and that they hoped it would be a game we could “look back and be proud to be involved with.”

I know I’m looking forward to going on my adventure with a new buddy-duo. Just as I did with Banjo-Kazooie as a child.
