Remaining Blackrock cards to be revealed tomorrow in livestream

Hearthstone’s next adventure expansion, Blackrock Mountain is due to release very soon. It’ll be a multi-stage singleplayer expansion much in the same vein as Naxxramas was, and the first wing can be expected April 2nd in the Americas and April 3rd everywhere else.

plateau_blackrock

Yesterday I wrote a round-up of all the cards that Blizzard has revealed to us so far, but it seems that they’ve decided not to wait until the full release of Blackrock to let the others out of the bag. Tomorrow a special livestream will be held on the PlayHearthstone Twitch channel and will not only show off the remaining cards it’ll show them in action as community managers Whirthun and Zeriyah use the new cards for special show matches.

It’s due to begin at 10:00AM PDT on Monday, tomorrow. I’ve embedded the Twitch channel below, but keep an eye on the SanitariumFM Twitch channel for weekly streams as I attempt to bludgeon my way through Blackrock’s wings as I did Naxxramas’. 😀

Head teachers warn they’ll report parents to police and social services if children play over 18 computer games

Parents have been told by headteachers that they will be reported to police and social services for neglect if they allow their children to play over 18 computer games, according to the Sunday Times.

Grand-Theft-Auto-V-2012-PC

The newspaper reported that a warning was issued by primary and secondary schools who found children had been watching or playing games like Call of Duty and Gears of War or Grand Theft Auto.

The group wrote to parents, saying sexual content and violence and sexual content in the games are inappropriate and could lead to “early sexualised behaviour” and leave children “vulnerable to grooming for sexual exploitation or extreme violence”.

It goes on to say:

If your child is allowed to have inappropriate access to any game, or associated product, that is designated 18+ we are advised to contact the police and children’s social care as this is deemed neglectful.”

– Letter to parents

Earlier this month, the Prime Minister said social workers, councillors and teachers could be jailed for up to five years if they failed to speak up when they suspected or received allegations that children were being ill-treated, abused or wilfully neglected.

“We are trying to help parents to keep their children as safe as possible in this digital era. It is so easy for children to end up in the wrong place and parents find it helpful to have some very clear guidelines.”

– Mary Hennessy Jones, the head who drafted the letter

Nantwich Education Partnership, made up of 16 schools in Cheshire, sent the letter. Safeguarding guidance from the local authority told schools that if the behaviour of a pupil, or concerns about them, arouse suspicion the school should consult the children’s service “if in any doubt”.

Parents’ groups have responded by saying reporting families for allowing children to play unsuitable computer games was a step too far.

Elite’s in-game scavenger hunt to win Nvidia cards

If you’re an Elite: Dangerous player, listen up. There’s a little contest going on in-game right now that could give you the chance to win one of five shiny new Nvidia GTX Titan Black graphics card. All you have to do is take part in the scavenger hunt that’s going on across the many, many systems in-game right now.

Elite Dangerous scavenger hunt

As the in-game bulletin from GalNet says:

“The NVIDIA labs, in association with Reynhardt IntelliSys, are pleased to announce that prototypes of the GeForce GTX Titan Black graphics card are now available for purchase from one exclusive outlet’. A masterpiece of engineering, the NVIDIA Geforce GTX Titan Black represents the cutting edge of display technology. It balances a sleek design with uncompromising performance and unparalleled processing power, making the Titan Black one of the most desirable display modules in the entire galaxy.

To celebrate the pre-release of the new module, NVIDIA are offering 5 lucky pilots the opportunity to win a commercial grade GTX Titan Black. Winning the competition couldn’t be simpler. The first 5 pilots to sell a canister of NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan Black Prototypes back to NVIDIA HQ aboard Godel Ring will be rewarded with a commercial model as soon as they become available. The only problem is NVIDIA isn’t saying where the prototypes are being sold. Happy hunting Commanders.

Entrants must have transported the prototypes under the Pilots Federation rules of ‘open play’ to be eligible to win.”

All you need to do is locate those prototypes, buy one and transport and sell it at the Godel Ring starport in the Ededleen System. Then e-mail community@frontier.co.uk with your Commander name and the subject title “I sold an Nvidia Titan Black” to make your attempt to claim the prize. The contest is being judged by how quickly you sell the prototype, not how quickly you send the e-mail.

Good luck everyone, it’s going to be quite difficult trying to find the one starport!

Gen Con Could Be Looking For A New Home

Gen Con Logo

Gen Con, the granddaddy of gaming conventions might be looking for a new home. The event is held every year in Indianapolis, Indiana and brings in an estimated $50 million to the city’s economy thanks to its massive attendance (56,000 attendees last year alone). That could all be in jeopardy thanks to a controversial bill known as SB 101. This bill will prevent state and local authorities from interfering with businesses’ and individuals’ “exercise of religion unless the government can prove it has a compelling interest and is doing so in the least restrictive means”. To break that down, the bill would provide business owners and individuals with legal protection to engage in discrimination based on religious grounds.

This is a serious concern to Gen Con organizers, as the attendees of the event are  “made up of different ethnicities, cultures, beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identities, abilities and socio-economic backgrounds”. In a letter to the governor, owner and CEO of Gen Con LLC, Adrian Swartout,  laid out a rather clear viewpoint stating “Legislation that could allow for refusal of service or discrimination against our attendees will have a direct negative impact on the state’s economy, and will factor into our decision-making on hosting the convention in the state of Indiana in future years.”

If Gen Con does decide to move, it will have a huge impact on the city. The Indiana Convention Center has been enlarged at a cost of over $200 million dollars in large part to better house Gen Con. The economic fallout from losing the estimated $50 million the convention brings to the local economy will also be severe. But even more concerning is the idea that a piece of legislation like SB 101 could actually be passed into law in a modern society. Needless to say, this will be a story we will follow closely.
