Nintendo Reveals More of Xenoblade Chronicles X

XenobladeChroniclesX

Nintendo snuck some new details about Xenoblade Chronicles X into their 11.5.2014 Nintendo Direct. Monolith’s massive RPG will see the people of Earth fleeing the planet after a galactic war and crash-landing on an uncharted planet. From here, the player takes over scouring the planet and conducting research from the city of New Los Angeles. Quests will include collecting items, hunting monsters and taking on requests from the people of New Los Angeles. These quests will all influence humanity’s survival. In typical Xenoblade style, some will deepen bonds with friends and party members, while others will progress the story.

Satoru Iwata, president and CEO of Nintendo described the game as being massive, even bigger that Xenoblade Chronicles. He also showed off some of the gamepad features of the game, including a navigation system to research the planet in a stress free way. The game is due to release in 2015.

Nintendo Direct 5th November 2014: Majora’s Mask 3D Announced for Spring 2015!

When Nintendo revealed the plan to remake the original Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the 3DS, many people thought it was a dream come true – and when the game came out, it certainly was. Link and Epona in stereoscopic 3D for the first time? Framerates improved to 30FPS instead of the slow 20FPS of the original N64 release? Touchscreen inventory management? The Water Temple fixed? Needless to say, Ocarina of Time 3D was a game that quickly hit people’s top 10 lists.

Following the success of Ocarina 3D, Nintendo caused even more excitement by announcing that they were considering using the same engine to bring other classic Zelda titles to the 3DS with improved gameplay and the modern, stereoscopic 3D graphics. To most Nintendo fans, there was only one real choice to improve this way that would instantly cause all Zelda fans to worship Nintendo as their god: Majora’s Mask.

Well, hardened Zelda fans – start bowing to the altar of Nintendo. Announced during a Nintendo Direct earlier today, it’s official: The Legend of Zelda – Majora’s Mask is getting a 3DS remake, due for release in Spring 2015. The two-minute Trailer includes a variety of gameplay clips which, while revealing little in terms of the technological upgrades we can expect, give a good tease as to some of the events of the game – as well as acting as a great reminder for just how creepy Majora’s Mask really was. While I go and try to stop myself getting nightmares and remember why I never played the game back in the N64 era (actually, I never had an N64 so I couldn’t have anyway – sue me), those of you who are already salivating from reading the above can hit up the trailer below:

The Sims 4 – now with pools!

Even before it released The Sims 4 was causing waves, but none of them were in the pools that had traditionally been one of the central points for The Sims as a game series. In fact, pools were one of many things there weren’t to be in the latest game from Maxis’ long running simulator series and that didn’t sit well with long-time fans.

Well it seems that the pools are returning! Hoorah! Now you can amuse yourself by plunging your pixellated charges into the water and removing all the exit points then watching them drown again. Lovely.

And it seems that with pools comes a wide level of customisation. All shapes, sizes, levels and designs of pools are now available for you to build for your Sims. And the patch that’s re-added the pools has also added the swimwear option for your family as well as fixing a handful of bugs and performance issues.

So, hopefully now all waves will stay confined within the walls of the pools where they belong from now on.

Ubi’s latest games missing from Steam UK this Christmas

Ubisoft are having a fairly large assault on Christmas this year. They’re due to release three big titles around the holiday period, but the listings are strangely absent from the November and December listings for Steam’s UK store.

Assassin’s Creed Unity will release in Europe on November 13th, Far Cry 4 on the 20th and The Crew will appear on December 2nd. This is when it will be available to purchase in stores as a hard copy and also as digital copies across the world from all digital distributors except Steam in the UK. Ubisoft say that they’ve been in talks with Valve but as of right now the games would not come to Steam in the UK.

The reasons behind this strange exception aren’t clear, but it’s likely to have something to do with the pricing. The physical store copies will be retailing for around £55 and the digital copies are only a fiver cheaper in Ubisoft’s uPlay store and other digital retailers with the games selling for £49.99. Currently Steam doesn’t really sell games at a price above £40 so it’s likely that the high price of all the games is the sticking point.

Maybe the games will come to Steam at a later date, but if a compromise isn’t reached soon Ubisoft will potentially be missing out on a little market share this Christmas from the Steam gamers.
