PC ports are a bit of a double-edged blade. We want good games to come to our preferred platform, but at the same time porting over games from console to PC can sometimes leave us with what feels like a sub-standard experience, especially if time isn’t put into properly optimising the game for the new hardware or re-mapping the controls comfortably.
However, the port of Dead Rising 3 is set to be different. Among the things done to it to make it a good port, is to allow full control of the graphical options, mod support, the ability to remove the 30 FPS cap and much more alongside the usual tweaks and bug fixes. An interview with Gamespot had producer Jon Airhart tell all about the port.
“For PC, that meant we needed to go back and put extra work into optimizing the game for the full range of PC gaming hardware out on the market,” he said, adding that although 30 FPS will be the cap players with beefier computers will have the option to remove it and get higher framerates as a result. He also spoke about officially allowing mod support, “Dead Rising is the ultimate sandbox, and if modders decide to turn their creative talents to DR3 (which I hope they do) the sky is the limit, with combo vehicles, DR3 has blurred the lines between a vehicle and a weapon, so I expect to see an even wider variety of crazy creations.”
Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse Edition will come with all the DLC packs for the game, as well as being released on Steam and all the additional things such as trading cards that brings too. ~It will be released September 5th.
A quiet little post made on Steam forums has revealed that behind the scenes of Steam, Sega have been working on improving the way some of their old Dreamcast classic games play on the PC.
The post was made after a user noticed what looked like some new achievements on their game, with Sega representative ‘kehittäjä’ making the post on the Sonic Adventure DX forums to be read by all.
“You may have noticed some new things crop up in our existing Dreamcast collection on Steam, such as achievements.” said kehittäjä. “Currently this content isn’t accessible but it’s part of an initiative from SEGA over the next few months which is going to improve the player experience for these titles.”
Among other things the games will get some slight tweaks and some optimisation to help them continue to run well on newer computers and hardware. There isn’t an exact date for when we can expect these changes to be finalised and the achievements unlockable, but it’s always good to see a company taking care of a loved back catalog for their players.
This game is the offering to all the Tomb Raider fans annoyed that the new game in the rebooted series is to be an Xbox exclusive. It’s a sequel to the Guardian of Light game, a two-player co-op that was relatively well received by the fans who got to play it. It’s also a corner of the franchise that the reboot never actually touched, so this is the original classic Lara Croft you’ll be playing with.
The game will be a four-player in a similar vein to the previous game, containing all the puzzling, fighting and other elements that made Guardian of Light a decent game.
Sports players generally have a retirement age which is lower than the average. Oddly this is one area that eSports resembles the more physical sports of old, by having a retirement age that’s even lower than theirs. Most eSports players retire from competitive player in their mid-twenties.
Riot though wants to help these people prepare for life after the competitions. While at the moment some players will go on to help develop more games like the ones they used to compete in, others will find it difficult to stay in the same area of employment. They aim to help players work on their brand during their time as competitors and to teach interview and media techniques that will be useful to them during and after their playing careers.
“We’re influenced a lot by real world sports here, the NFL has a ‘Rookie Symposium,’ for example. It’s basically an orientation program which is similar to what we’re doing.”
Football season is almost upon us. As the resident american who understands the game (as opposed to futbol), it falls to me to explain all things Madden related. Like this new ad from EA which features Kevin Hart, James Franco, a pool full of dolphins and a DJ wearing a teddy bear head playing violin in a swimming pool while a house burns down. As you may have guessed, I don’t have any clue whats going on here either.
