“You’re on your own”: Oculus warn second-hand Rift buyers

Oculus have had enough it seems. There’d been rumours of overseas buyer snapping up many copies of their Development Kit 2, the prototype to the second version of the Rift they were to bring out, and then going online to sell the DK2s to the highest bidders with prices marked up above what Oculus were asking. Seems that they’re not just rumours though.

Today the company, known for their popular VR headset, have not only made their unhappiness at these sorts of buyers well known, they warn to all people who buy their DK2s second-hand: you’re on your own when it comes to customer support.

“We don’t allow resale of the development kit.” Oculus community manager cybereality wrote online. “We also don’t provide warranty on second-hand sales, so if you buy on eBay you are on your own.”

The new version of the Oculus Rift is promised to be a step-up from the original version, providing better quality and comfort for users. The company had planned to make kits available to developers to help them develop games for use with the headset. Given the first version’s popularity though, it’s sad to see people taking advantage of this to try and cash in on the craze.

Riot Games Deactivating Skin Codes

League-of-Legends-logo-1024x512

Recently Riot, the company behind League of Legends,  has made a big announcement: they are no longer going to make skin codes. For those of you who play League of Legends you will be aware that Riot (like many other companies) create exclusive content that can only be acquired by attending conventions – in this case skin codes. Skin codes are rare, expensive and very difficult to acquire. Many people who play League of Legends and some of the other large MOBAs like to collect all of the cosmetic products in these free to play games, and there is a very high demand for the convention skin codes.

Skin codes and other similar collectables are big business and it would seem that this has attracted fraudsters. Riot have decided that the skin codes are causing a problem and have decided to end their production in the hopes of reducing fraud within the League of Legends community. We’ll see if this pays off, personally it seems like a step in the right direction. Riot has also announced that any skin codes that have been claimed will not be revoked. It is not a surprising move and Riot had this to say on the matter:

“”We are working with multiple payment processors to inform them of the situation and recommend they no longer process fraudulent payments from these sites, additionally we will be deactivating all previously issued skin codes starting today [July 11, 2014]. If you have a skin code that you acquired legitimately please send a request to Player Support and include proof of ownership. We’d be happy to help redeem the content to your account, but please note after 23/07/14 we will no longer be redeeming codes for any reason.”

Is it the correct move to entirely kill this market? We will have to see but it is certainly a very direct approach to the matter.

Oddworld: New N’ Tasty gets a fairer European price

Good news for all European fans of the Oddworld series eagerly awaiting the release of the remade version of Abe’s Oddysee: New N’ Tasty. Seems that all the prices have been equally across all regions, and that means a slightly lower price for all of Europe.

Originally the game had a digital total for £19.99 in the UK and €24.99 for the rest of Europe. This didn’t really compare well against the US total of $24.99 which is about £14.64 or €18.35. So a lot cheaper for North America. However now to guarantee a much fairer deal for the European fans, the prices have been revised down to £17.99 and €20.99. Still not totally equal, but better than it had been.

The price changes were announced as part of an EU pre-order bonuses post (or ‘quikbuy’ as it’s put on the news post) outlining the Alf’s Escape bonus mission and the Scrub Abe costume.

New N’ Tasty will be releasing onto Playstation 4 on July 22nd, and then coming to PC, Mac and Linux later on.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: Introducing Mega Metagross!

A new trailer for the Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby remakes has been released today and it shows off a wide variety of things, both new and remastered.

The trailer includes footage of some of the animations used when you challenge certain Hoenn gym leaders as well as those from two of the Elite Four of the region. It also showcases the Secret Base function that was a popular part of the third generation games and something new that is hinted to be associated with the region’s contests, either as part of it or maybe even a new type altogether: Pikachu Cosplay.

The main thing the trailer reveals though is the next Pokemon to get a Mega Evolution, the Steel/Psychic type Metagross, which noticeably changes the position of the Pokemon’s four limbs from being four leg-like limbs to what seem to be four arm-like limbs with counterweights to the back of the Pokemon. It also turns the x across its face golden and adds a goatee-like spike below Metagross’ mouth.

Check out what the new evolution in the video below!

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will release on November 28th for Europe and November 21st everywhere else.

Grinding Gear Games have announced the beginning of a month long league event in their MMO game, Path of Exile.

The event started today and will be lasting through to noon (NZ time)n on August 9th. The event is fairly unique due to the length it will be running but it will also make use of past event properties in combinations that will be rotated every few days to make the event interesting. Past event properties include Anarchy, Nemesis, Invasion among other challenges designed to make survival in the game’s wilds more challenging to players.

There will of course be rewards in this event, based on what level your exile reaches in the course of the event, starting from Level 30 and going up in reward tiers in incliments of 10 levels until it reaches the top level: 80. The prizes are mostly different armour sets although Level 70s and 80s can win shirts of their choice from J!NX.

Sounds tempted doesn’t it? Comment below if you think you’ll be getting involved in this league event.
