Fallout Shelter makes $5.1 million profit in 2 weeks

Fallout Shelter was announced at E3 by Bethesda as a quick little mobile app game for iOS, supposedly made to build some hype up for Fallout 4 (as if there wasn’t enough already) and tide people over til then. It was a free-to-play shelter building game that became very popular very quickly.

Now it’s been announced that despite letting you play as much as you’d like for free and only having real money purchases in the form of ‘lunchboxes’ that contained in-game items to add to your total stock of supplies the game has made $5.1 million in its first 2 weeks on market. Not bad for a little game not meant to make a profit according to the developers of the game.

While Fallout Shelter is currently an iOS-only game, an Android version is currently in development and should be out soon say Bethesda.

GTA V update brings unwanted FPS lag,; Rockstar already working on it

GTA V is a few years old by this point, but Rockstar are still putting out free updates for it. The latest one was the second part of the GTA Ill-Gotten Gains update, which added a bunch of new cars, boats, clothes and other expensive, luxury items to buy. The problem is that it also came with a noticeable framerate problem.

Players have noticed that lower frame rates had become more regular since the update last week, and Rockstar have already said that they’re “looking into” the causes on a support page. Users on the /r/Games Reddit have been speculating that the new anti-modding and hacking measures for GTA Online could be the cause, but issues have effected all players regardless of whether they play the game straight or flavoured with a mod or two.

Rockstar should have a patch out soon once the root cause has been nailed down.

More Baldur’s Gate Coming!… Set Between I & II

Baldurs Gate Dragonspear logo

It’s been 17 years since the release of Baldur’s Gate, which, of course, makes this the perfect time for an expansion pack.

Last night, the folks at Beamdog—best known for releasing Enhanced Editions of the two Baldur’s Gate games—announced Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, a new entry in the series that’s set place between BG1 and BG2. Siege of Dragonspear will run on the Infinity Engine, they say, and it’ll tell a new story after the death of Sarevok but before the rise of Irenicus.

In case you’re not familiar: the Baldur’s Gate games are top-down isometric RPGs that follow strict D&D rules and let you pause during combat. They’ve held up really well today, especially BG2, which remains one of the greatest games ever made.

And now we’re getting a new one, developed by some ex-BioWare folks who have spent the past few years porting and enhancing those old Infinity Engine games. Says Beamdog:

The events between Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition are at last revealed in this exciting new expansion to the original game.

Though Sarevok is dead and his plan for war averted, peace eludes the citizens of Baldur’s Gate. A crusade marches in the north, seizing supplies, forcing locals into military service, and disrupting trade along the Sword Coast. A charismatic warrior known as the Shining Lady leads this army, her background shrouded in mystery. Can the rumors be true—is she, like you, the child of a god?

The closer you get to the Shining Lady, the more you realize your father, the dead Lord of Murder still casts a long shadow upon your path. Baldur’s Gate has put its faith in you, but you must determine whose interests you truly serve before you face the Shining Lady among the ruins of Dragonspear Castle…

Isometric RPGs sure are making a comeback, huh? There’s no firm release date yet, but the folks at Beamdog say Dragonspear will be out relatively soon for PC/Mac/Linux and then later this year for iOS/Android too. Hopefully it will be a worthy addition to the franchise.

Trailer: LEGO Dimensions Dr. Who Trailer

In a brand new trailer for the crazy pop culture mashup, Warner Bros. has given us a glimpse at Dr. Who in LEGO Dimensions. Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Michelle Gomez are all voicing the characters the play in the popular BBC show. The trailer showed some interesting situations, as Homer Simpson and the Doctor fought side by side in a Portal test chamber, Batman and Gandalf were shown in the TARDIS, and those things that shout “EXTERMINATE!” from Dr. Who interrogated a group of hero characters.

Admittedly, I don’t know much about Dr. Who, having never been a fan of the series. But the trailer certainly looks interesting. And now, in an effort to add some authentic fanboy…Who-fan…Whovian…WHATEVER…flavor to the post….

<Insert Lonesamurai rambling on about how great Dr. Who is HERE>
