In a move that shouldn’t really surprise anyone, gaming’s biggest eSports league has seen fit to ban a team because of their sponsor.
Team YP are a high-profile team mainly known for the sponsor that gave them their name – they’re sponsored by adult site YouPorn. The Electronic Sports League/ESL has banned the team for going against its rules that team sponsors must not be “known for… adult/mature themes and products”, a ruling that includes the team’s sponsor site.
To be fair to the team, they have tried to work with the ESL, shortening the name down to Team YP, keeping their online presences safe for work, and even offering to remove all outward references to their sponsor and even go as far to outright change their team’s name if the ESL wanted them to. However, the ESL has decided that the team cannot compete in their leagues as long as they are sponsored by YouPorn.

“Advertising pornography is not legal in the markets we operate in, and the vast majority of partners we’re working with have strict ‘no drugs, no alcohol, no pornography’ rules that we’ve contractually taken on board,” an ESL spokesperson told Eurogamer.
“These aren’t new rules but ones that have been in our rulebooks for a long time. We have spoken to Team YP manager earlier this year, and in that conversation we’ve explained the situation and rules in detail and offered to look for potential alternatives in a bigger group. At the same time, we’re consulting with our legal teams about this. We will inform the team and the management as soon as we have any updates.”
Team YP are understandably disappointed in the decision that was made, as it will have a big effect on their ability to compete professionally.
As a situation this is a tricky one to fall completely on either side of. Team YP have done their best to be open to suggestions on how they can satisfy the ESL short of losing their sponsor, but the ESL are within their rights to ban the team as the YouPorn sponsorship is against their rules.

2016’s not been a good year so far as far as the death tally for famous faces, and now gaming has been hit with the curse too.
While the name ‘Jory Prum’ might not be as recognisable to many people, you’re probably going to be familiar with his work. Among other things Prum provided voice over, music and orchestral scores for over a hundred games, including LucasArts’ Knights of the Old Republic, Double Fine’s Broken Age and Brütal Legend, and Telltale’s The Walking Dead. More recently he worked on the Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango remasters, using the original audio score for the latter to record a new orchestral score. That’s quite the legacy to leave behind.
The news was broken over the weekend by Double Fine found Tim Schafer, after the news spread that Prum had been involved in a serious motorcycle accident at just 41. Schafer said that those who knew him were “stunned and deeply saddened” at the news.
While music is only one part of what makes games great, you can’t help but deny that the loss of someone who provided the scores for several of the great games of the last few decades will be felt by the industry and especially those people in the studios he worked for.

We as gamers love to hope for things, so when we see official channels posting up news we often get on board with it. However, sometimes it proves not to be the case.
A news post on the official Japanese Persona Channel listed release dates and platforms for Persona 5 yesterday, exciting fans when they noticed that not only was the date July 8th, but said that the game would be releasing on both PS4 and PC simultaneously – a PC release having been before ruled out as impossible in August last year.
Alas though, it was not to be. Shortly after the news was reported the Atlus news site began to update with posts that talked about methods of breaking into said Persona Channel and using it to post fake news posts. So it seemed that the PC release was as said previously; impossible.
A good example of why it pays to be a little hesitant sometimes when news comes out. Even if the news comes from an official source sometimes it’s just people playing a prank or in need of full actual press release confirmation before you can safely get excited.

An RPG that sees party members using powers based off masks from great olden time Balls has reached almost half of it’s £45,000 goal despite having only been running for 48 hours.
Masquerada: Songs and Shadows, an isometric pause-and-plan real-time RPG, is already looking to be in the advanced stages of development but the developers Witching Hour required just that little bit extra to polish the game up and get it into players’ hands. So far it looks like they might succeed.
The game will put you into the shoes of private investigator Cicero, banished from a civil-war-ridden city, and you must return to discover the root of the troubles around you. It also boasts fully voice-acted scenes and dialogue with names such as Jennifer Hale and Matthew Mercer attached to it.
If it sounds like your sort of thing, take a look over on the Kickstarter page. The fact that the campaign’s doing so well bodes well for this game actually making it to the selling stages.

Well, I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised… but then even as a fan of the series I wasn’t expecting the next game from Scott Cawthon to be what it was.
Earlier today the teaser image that has slowly been revealing letters to us over on Scottgames.com fully revealed itself. And it seems that Scott’s not done with the FNAF world just yet:

The top line above SISTER LOCATION isn’t very clear, but it reads “FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S” – which means the new game that Scott informed us about a few months ago is likely going to be in the same universe as FNAF 1-4 (and debatably FNAF World… depending on how canon you see the ‘True Ending’) but possibly located at the mysterious ‘sister location’ that’s been mentioned in FNAF3’s training tapes.
Of course, the face in the background is also unfamiliar to the series so far as well but the main theory based on what we can see is that it is set around the same time as FNAF 2 due to similarity to the “Toy” animatronics that were ordered and put into operation at the time in the lore FNAF2 is set.
Scott Cawthon had said a while ago while developing FNAF World that there would not be a “FNAF5” which is why this announcement has thrown a lot of people for a loop, as we had all suspected FNAF World as being ‘it’ for the FNAF series. Of course, if this game isn’t called “Five Nights at Freddy’s 5” then Cawthon wasn’t lying.
Either way, we’re going to have to wait for more details on the game as the teasers are released.
