The Descent series has been around since the 90s, throwing up to four players into spaceships flying around an asteroid mine. The aim was to blast your opponents without crashing or getting blasted yourself. Recently the original team launched a Kickstarter for a sequel called Descent: Underground.
The campaign has been funded, but it was a close call. The target of $600,000 was met with just hours to spare and upon close the target had only been exceeded by around $1,000. Fortunately the website of the studio, Descendent Studios, is continuing to take funding so it’s hoping that some stretch goals could still be met with a new ship being added to the game for each.

The game itself looks pretty nice too, being made in Unreal Engine 4 and following the same basic gameplay format of 4-player, blast your friends and try not to die. However the modern twist comes in that it will be made to work with the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, allowing players to experience the action virtually as they play. There’ll also be a level of customisation for ships available too.

The long awaited PC version of GTA V releases soon, and it comes with at least one feature that is as of right now, exclusive. It comes with a built-in video editor mode that enables you to record footage, edit it together and then upload it to Youtube. Nice.
The editor mode is a suite of tools that allow for the making of simple videos using footage captured in game, and further there’s a slightly more advanced version called the director mode.
Director mode lets you stage scenes, choosing locations, characters from the story mode, time of day, weather and so on, and then lets you shoot scenes from your own made-up action movies. It even lets you add things like explosive punches and low gravity. You can also change the angle on shots to get the right view of every bit of chaos that unfolds.

GTA V is far from the first game of this style that has this sort of mode; I remember Driver 2 having its own video editor mode back in the days of the first Playstation and it was a lot of fun to use. However given that I did enjoy that one so much as a child, you can upload clips after editing and just the fact that this is included makes me just want GTA V even more.
And Rockstar’s even uploaded a video to help explain the mode a lot better, so go check it out if you’re as interested as I am.

A public beta for an all-new player vs. player (PvP) mode will soon be available to all Guild Wars 2 players in North America and Europe.

Called Stronghold, the mode takes place in the Battle of Champion’s Dusk map and allows teams to play as pirates and knights while working to overthrow the opposing team’s lord. NCSOFT and ArenaNet hope to introduce new strategy elements to the mode by including NPCs that can be hired (sounding somewhat like Heroes from Guild Wars 1’s Nightfall campaign) to help fight enemy resistance and giving players options and new “strategic opportunities” to keep each player engaged.
This public beta will be accessible through Guild Wars 2’s Unranked Arena. The developer notes that classic PvP mode Conquest will still be available through the Ranked Arena. ArenaNet invites those interested to visit their official website to learn more. But, to get started in Stronghold, you’ll need to head to the Heart of the Mists, which can be accessed through the main portal in Lion’s Arch or through the PvP panel icon located at the top of your screen. Once you’re ready, queue for an Unranked Arena match. You’ll see Battle of Champion’s Dusk as the featured map; vote for it, hit “Accept” when your queue pops, and enjoy the battle! Conquest matches can still be played in Ranked.

Stronghold will be included in Guild Wars 2’s upcoming expansion Heart of Thorns and the beta will be available for 24 hours and will take place on Tuesday, April 14.
Those who choose to participate may use the character currently tied to their account.
To celebrate this huge moment for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, ArenaNet will also be streaming live for 23 hours nonstop, from 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday to noon Pacific Time on Wednesday. The stream will feature some of your favorite Guild Wars 2 livestreamers and shoutcasters, as well as appearances by ArenaNet developers! (Well, all except me of course)

Players of the game Pillars of Eternity will soon be able to opt into a patch beta testing program set up by Obsidian to help them test betas properly before they release to the general playerbase itself. While it will allow for them to test new fixes and even play new content first, there is a possibility that they could irreversibly corrupt save files.
“We will be doing work on the patches and they haven’t gone through a full QA cycle so unexpected things can happen,” stated lead producer Brandon Adler. “To be safe, I would avoid using any saved games that you do not want to get corrupted. If you do want to use those saved games, it is at your own risk.”

The first patch will be 1.04, which will go live in the near future for testing out. Opt in is done through Steam right now, and will later also be on GOG once Obsidian are able to get the process working on that platform as well.
If you’re interested in opting into the beta patches, follow these simple instructions:
- Quit and restart the Steam client.
- Find Pillars of Eternity in your library, right click it and select “Properties”.
- Click on the “Betas”tab, and enter “BETAPASSWORD” into the access code field.
- Finally, select the dropdown list and select the beta program branch option.

Those excited for the next Call of Duty game, Black Ops 3, might be waiting now for the full reveal of the game on April 26th. However Activision did hint at possible “new intel” that could be release before then and if you search the source code for the CoD site, you might find a surprise hidden within it: the description for the next game.
“Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the first title for next-gen hardware in the critically acclaimed Black Ops series. Developed by Treyarch, the award-winning creator of the two most-played games in Call of Duty history. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare. With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, providing fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever.”

There’s been other supposed ‘leaks’ of information including an unattributed trailer on Youtube and an image showing a heavily armoured soldier in the same pose as the guy on the cover of the original Black Ops game (as seen above). None of the others have been expressly confirmed as official yet though, so for now all we have is the source code’s hidden text.
