Earlier today, the Korean version of the official Pokémon website uploaded a picture and screenshot confirming two hitherto unknown Mega Evolutions.
Since Generation 6 began with Pokémon X and Y, Nintendo and Game Freak have committed themselves to simultaneous worldwide releases for all main-series Pokémon titles. With the different regions speaking a total of eight different languages, naturally Nintendo have since set up a series of websites for Pokémon in each language to allow each region to know exactly what to expect in each game. Theoretically, the websites SHOULD contain the same information – just translated. So when new information is due to go up on the websites, Nintendo send them the information with instructions to not put it live until a certain date, so that each region hears about it at the same time. But on Tuesday, it appears one of them jumped the gun.
For a short while earlier today (Tuesday), the official Korean Pokémon website revealed details of two new Mega Evolutions, Mega Slowbro and Mega Audino. The website contained a series of screenshots showing both in battle; as well as official artwork on both formes and brief details. Neither Pokémon have been officially revealed by Nintendo, however, resulting in the information being removed from the website just minutes later – but not before observant fans managed to save some of the pictures for themselves.
The description of the two Pokémon, according to a subsequent translation effort by Serebii, lists Mega Audino as a Normal/Fairy-type with the ability Healer. Mega Slowbro has no typing listed – which usually happens when the Mega Evolution keeps the same type as the original Pokémon, so it can be assumed that it retains a Water/Psychic-typing. It has the ability Shell Armor.
As we continue down the road towards the eventual release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, more and more Mega Evolutions are being revealed; and it remains to be seen just how many more there could be. Also still waiting to be filled in are details of the Primal Evolution mechanic used by Groudon and Kyogre; and whether any of these forms are usable in the other Gen 6 games, Pokémon X and Y. Pokémon fans around the world continue to watch intensely for the next reveal!
Kalypso Media showed off a new game at Gamescom this year with a teaser trailer for Grand Ages: Medieval.
This will be a follow-up to Grand Ages: Rome, released in 2009. Set in 1050 AD, the High Middle Ages, the game will be a real time city builder. Raise armies, build trade routes and perform research in a map of Europe spanning over 30 million square kilometers. The game is currently set to release for PC in 2015.
The SteamDB group have unearthed something fairly interesting in the coding for Steam’s latest big Beta update. Seems that Valve are already beginning to build in places for apps for game play things such as demos and DLC as well as other types of media such as music and TV.
Valve had already revealed the news of Steam Music earlier on, with a beta client for the new app being sent to testers in February. There has also been film released via Steam already, the Dota 2 documentary Free-To-Play as well as award-winning film Indie Game: The Movie although both are still stored into the game library at present.
This capability to fit apps into Steam’s architecture suggests that as well as trying to conquer the traditional part of the console market with their Steam Box console and Steam Controller (now delayed until 2015) Valve might be planning to offer a complete package of media to rival that of the Xbox’s upon the Steam Box’s launch.
So the third week of Naxxramas has come and gone, bringing with it the third wing in the five-week release schedule for the single-player Hearthstone expansion. And the first one that wasn’t troubled in some way by server or purchasing issues, so that’s a plus. The Military quarter once again offers three bosses to battle: Instructor Razuvious, Gothik the Harvester and the Four Horsemen/Baron Rivendare. All three have some pretty unique battles for you to play through and win.
Razuvious has a hero ability for 2 mana-cost called Unbalancing Strike to attack for 3 damage, has 40 HP and starts with two Understudies, 0/7 minions with Taunt. However you also have an extra Mind Control Crystal card, for 1 mana cost. Take my advice: play it. Also, beware his Massive Runeblade which can strike your Hero for twice the damage, which is usually 10 damage at once.
Gothik has 30 HP, a 2 mana-cost Hero Power called Harvest that allows him to draw a card and plays a lot of ‘Unrelenting’ minions. If you must kill them, be warned: they will come back to your side of the field as Spectral versions (each with 0 attack) who will each cause 1 damage to your Hero at the start of your turn. A good way to deal with them is to make them Taunts or give them some attack to force them to break themselves and die.
The Four Horsemen are really just Baron Rivendare as Hero with the other three Horsemen as minions on the field at the start of battle. All four have just 7 HP (including Rivendare), with the three minion Horsemen all have just 1 attack and Rivendare’s hero power lets him draw 2 cards for a mighty 5 mana. The catch however is that although they’re the only three minions Rivendare has, the 3 minion Horsemen make him immune until they’re dead or Silenced. My tip is to use as much Silence and Taunt as you can and be ready to slam Rivendare once you can get at him.
The two Class Challenges this time are Shaman and Warlock and both are also pretty challenging, if not quite as random and insane as last week’s Hunter challenge was. Both are perfectly beatable though with a little quick thinking, careful planning and as always with Hearthstone; a little luck of the draw.
Overall this week lacked the pure joy that I got from the Plague Quarter last week, but I still immensely enjoyed the time I spent playing and beating each boss and Class Challenge this week. Especially figuring out the ‘proper’ way to handle each boss (and then using my Hunter deck anyway). As always, can’t wait for the next wing and the chance to win some lovely new cards.
A new trailer for Techland’s open-world zombie survival game, Dying Light, has emerged in the wake of Gamescon; supposedly meant to be shown off there to update the attendees on the game’s status.
The trailer contains a great many things of notice, among them being a hint of a release date (February 2015 it seems), that the game will feature up to 4-player co-operative play and the two different play styles that a player will need to master to survive: the fairly gung-ho style of the day when zombies move slower and the more stealthy style of the night when zombies get quicker and stronger.
