Wildstar’s free-to-play Beta taking registrations

Wildstar is due to go free-to-play in Autumn and its now taking beta registrations ahead of this transition, in a bit to attract new players to the game.

New players will get access to two character slots, four costume slots and two bank slots for free, although subscribers will get more slots and various other benefits as a result of paying for them. However even if you’re not subscribing you will still have access to the full game, all classes and all skills. However all players will have to sign up to a ‘Signature program’ to be allowed to create guilds and gain access to some other perks.

Both types of player will inhabit the same server space though, which means that those currently playing will soon probably see an influx of new players for them to play with. Or troll. Either and or.

Otherworld to enter Early Access next year

Otherland is a game that’s been in development for a very long time now. News posts relating to it were first popping up back in 2008, and since then it’s gone though one total reboot and an exchange of developers which has contributed to the long development time.

otherland

It’s been in closed beta since late last year, but now it seems that the game might finally be relasing publicly, in Early Access on Steam. The MMORPG is based on a series of novels by Tad Williams and will be available sometime in early 2016 and apparently will be “one of the most advanced titles on the service, a far cry from the Pre-Alpha Versions often put up for sale.”

Features advertised include:

  • A combat system that attempts to “feel more like an fighting in an action game than in a classic MMORPG”
  • Four classes, two melee, two ranged. They broadly fit in tank, two DPSers and healing, but each looks able to fill a variety of roles.
  • A wide range of customisation options when it comes to looks.
  • Player housing within a large area of the map, where each player has their own unique space.

No prices have been announced yet, but it doesn’t seem to be due to follow the free-to-play route.

Diablo III to get some new items and gear in next patch

A new Diablo III patch is currently available in the Public Test Realm of the game, and it seems that it’ll be coming with a bunch of new items and gear sets.

The Crusader, Monk and Witch Doctor classes each get a new set of gear each and the Witch Doctor’s Helltooth Harness along with the Wizard’s Vyr’s Amazing Arcana set are also getting an update with this patch. There are also some new Legendaries to hunt down, and with Season 4 about to begin there’s sure to be some Season Legendaries available soon as well.

Check out the video below for some visuals and hop into the PTR if you want to try the patch out before public release.

#BlizzGC2015 Announces World of Warcraft: Legion at #GamesCom

The Burning Legion is back in the next expansion for World of Warcraft, which will raise the level cap to 110 and add a new hero class, Demon Hunter, to the longrunning MMORPG.

WoW Legion

It’s called Legion.

At a live presentation at Gamescom in Germany today, Blizzard showed off the new expansion pack, first showing off this Gul’dan-helmed teaser:

And here’s a sizzle reel for the expansion pack’s new features:

Blizzard says before the new expansion even launches, players will have to face hordes of demons in a zone called the Tomb of Sargeras, which will be a familiar name to anyone who’s familiar with Warcraft lore.

RaiderZ to shutdown after developers cease to exist

Free-to-play MMO RaiderZ will be shutting down for good next month, after the game’s developers MAIET have ceased trading. The game will close down when the developer company is finally dissolved.

The game has been suffering server issues recently and it was because of this that the publisher of the game, Perfect World, discovered the situation.

“Over the past weeks, RaiderZ has seen a few different instances where the game has had issues with the server. In the past, we have been working with MAIET, the developer of RaiderZ, in order to troubleshoot and solve issues to keep the game available for the players. Unfortunately, MAIET is no longer operating anymore.”

Players who have made any purchases involving RaiderZ since May 7th will be refunded their money to their Arc Account Balance and the in-game prices have also been slashed for the time the game has left, with players who logged in during the last month also being given 1000 in-game currency to have some fun with before the servers go offline on August 7th, 10am PDT.

While the reason for MAIET’s folding is not known, looks at reviews for the game on Steam are mixed, with a good number of the negative ones complaining about constant crashes and also quite a few mentioning that the game contained a trojan or other malicious software that attempts to get players to deactivate their anti-virus software; a claim that is denied by others.
