Khadgar appears as HS Hero for #AppsforEarth

Right now the Apple App Store are running a special campaign in partnership with the WWF to help raise funds for conservation efforts. It’s called “Apps for Earth” and a number of games and apps are offering special things in-game for purchase. This includes Hearthstone it seems.

Blizzard have just announced another alternate Mage Hero to use in game, and this time it’s the one-time apprentice of Medivh – Archmage Khadgar.

He’ll be available to purchase in the game of Hearthstone from now until April 24th as a Hero; but only if you’re using the iOS version of the game to make the purchase. Spend €4.99 / £3.99 to unlock him and you’ll have this playable Hero available for use on all the platforms you use to play Hearthstone upon.

It’s worth a reminder that the alternate Heroes don’t change anything in the game, besides your character portrait, the six dialogue options and the animations upon entry of a match. However, Khadgar is being offered at a lower price than previous alternate Heroes and it’s for a good cause, so it’s worth consideration.

If you want more information about the Apps for Earth campaign, track the tag #AppsforEarth on Twitter!

The Black Death coming to Early Access on April 19th

If you’re in the mood for a new multiplayer sandbox survival game (and you might be), good news! One is about to enter Early Access with a decent amount of playable content already!

Set in medieval times, The Black Death sees you trying to survive by picking up work and supplies while hopefully not falling prey to the titual disease that wiped out a quarter of the population back in the 14th Century.

While it won’t be 100% finished (hence Early Access), it will be launching with some of the map, three playable classes, improved combat and a city arena where you can fight to the death if you should choose to. It’s nice that they’ve set aside an area for the murder that’s inevitably going to happen anyway in a big multiplayer survival game like this. When it is done, the game hopes to offer an eight-square-kilometer map to explore and survive in.

Pre-orders are already up on Green Man Gaming and the Humble Store for £14.99. Otherwise expect to see it on Early Access on April 19th.

Kickstarter Gaming Round-Up: Apr 17th

It’s time for the weekly update of Kickstarter gaming campaigns!

A brief update on previously covered campaigns to start – many of last week’s campaigns are at the 20 day mark, with none having made any extraordinary progress although most are progressing nicely. GAME OVER however has finished and fell way short of its $1,145 target. There haven’t been any updates to the campaign since the beginning of March though, so communication and a lack of it might have not helped its chances.

Ghost Theory

Ghost-Theory

Hey look, our first repeat entry!

I’ve previously covered Ghost Theory when the studio ran their first Kickstarter campaign a little while ago. We were informed that they were about to try again, and so they have. The campaign’s already off to a great start and the idea of exploring a haunted location to discover the story behind it before the ghostly residents scare you to death is still a good one.

Ghost Theory has a goal of £50,000 and it has made £15,157 so far with 25 days to go.

Mythos

PM-Mythos-box-art1

Next up we have a tabletop game set in the 1920s and taking many cues from Lovecraftian lore.

In an alternate reality where a lot of humanity have turned to insane cults and are waging war, you play as either someone on the side of humanity or as part of one of the cult factions fighting for supremacy while attempting to keep your sanity enough to control your actions. There are also a few different methods of play, including role play sessions.

Mythos has 27 days to go and has made £6,507 of its £10,000 goal.

Vulnerability is Sexy

vulnerabilityissexy

Next up is a card game about getting to know each other.

Vulnerability is a card game which challenges you to answer questions drawn from one of three comfort level decks, either using a Free Pass card to avoid answering a question or giving your answer. The action card deck then determines whose turn it is next, and other players can use core value cards to reward answers from you or any other player. This is basically a game about telling stories and building connections. Lovely.

Vulnerability is Sexy has a target of $20,000 and 57 days to go. It has made $2,140 so far.

Rock God Tycoon

rockgodtycoon

Finally we have a tycoon game, and I’m including this because I like tycoon games. Hey, it’s my article.

Rock God Tycoon starts you off as an aspiring rock star fresh out of school. You need to record songs, customise a character, book gigs and build your way up to fame and fortune. As you go along you can spend money on new instruments and accessories to help your image, and there’s even rhythm-based game sections ala Guitar Hero to affect how well you play a show.

Rock God Tycoon has 27 days to go to make an $8,000 target, of which it has made $525 so far.

Hitboxes updated in Rocket League 1.16

Rocket League is due to get a nice big update later this month for a basketball-style conversion, but it seems before that Psyonix are making sure that the collision is as tight as they can make it by modifying a few hitboxes.

Eleven of the playable cars are having their collision borders tweaked slightly to help them more closely match the actual models in version 1.16 out sometime this week. They’ve also made a few changes that has managed to get the game’s rating down from an E10+ it was originally assigned to an E for Everyone ESRB rating. Hooray for child-safe gaming!

If you want some more detail on the changes, here are the patch notes:

  • Improved Hitboxes for multiple vehicles to more accurately represent their models; specifically…
    • Fixed Scarab and Grog’s hitboxes, which were not long enough
    • Fixed Breakout and Hotshot’s hitboxes,  which were not wide enough
    • Fixed Batmobile and Breakout’s hitboxes, which were abnormally long
    • Fixed Gizmo, Octane, Ripper, and Scarab’s hitboxes, which were too tall
    • Fixed Dominus’ hitbox, which was not long or tall enough

  • Repaired collision issues that resulted in incorrect ball-bounce behavior in some maps.
    • Additionally, the “Wasteland” Arena received collision improvements to eliminate inaccurate bounces
