Game Trailer: Dragon Age: Inquisition Trailer – The Hero of Thedas

A new trailer for the latest Dragon Age has just been released, so as to keep the interest high until the game’s release which has been delayed a little bit.

It shows an awful lot of cutscenes and not too much gameplay, but it does give a little bit of story about the Inquisitor for those who are interested. Either way, it looks and sounds quite interesting, so it does its job nicely.

Overkill’s Payday freebie happens this Thursday

Those of you who love Overkill’s most popular series, take note. From 10am Pacific time/6pm British Standard Time on Thursday, the original Payday: The Heist will be free on Steam for 24 hours. Sweet.

The freebie comes as part of the rewards offered to people who joined the official Payday 2 Steam Group, as Overkill offered tiers based on how many people were joined in the lead up to their ‘Crimefest’ event. The free day was originally meant to be on October 18th, but was brought forward when all the reward goals were met earlier than expected by the devs.

“You guys have made one hell of an effort during the pasts months. Truly, we in the Overkill crew salute you,” they wrote.

Overkill says that we can expect “clear instructions” on how to download the game on the date in question. Eyes on your screens and mice at the ready everyone, we’ve a free game to acquire…

Jagex to make collectable card game; Chronicle: Runescape Legends

Seems that Hearthstone has made the digital collectable card game market attractive again. The latest developer who is planning to jump into the market is Runescape developer Jagex with their new game Chronicle: Runescape Legends.

The game will be set in the Runescape world of Gielinor and will be played out on the pages of what is being called a ‘living book’. The studio also say that it will allow players to “craft their own miniature RPGs” against computer-controlled enemies before striking out into PvP combat against other players; which kind of confuses me a bit as I can’t see how that would work with the collectable card element of the game. There must be some plan in place though, as the quest and the fact that pieces seem visible in screenshots means that Jagex are trying to make this a unique game in its own right.

Following the game’s public reveal on October 11th at RuneFest, James Sweatman the Lead Designer said, “We’ve been quietly developing Chronicle: Runescape Legends since the start of the year to ensure that it’s not only a fun and compelling player experience, but one still very much interwoven into the rich lore of Runescape.”

The new game is being developed for PC, Mac, tablets and mobiles and will have more information release in the coming months before releasing sometime in 2015.

Wildstar Servers Going Mega on Oct. 15th

Wildstar Logo

This coming Wednesday, the 15th of October, Carbine studios will be taking Wildstar offline for up to 24 hours. No, the game isn’t dying. In fact, Carbine is migrating to Megaservers. So, what does this mean for the average player? Its pretty simple really: The servers for each region and gametype are being consolidated. Going forward the North Americas will have one PvE Megaserver and one PvP Megaserver. The same is true for the EU. All characters of level 3 or more will be moved along with all their gear. Additionally, guilds, arena teams, social circles, mail and auction items will also be moved. It’s important to note that if you have a level 2 or 2 character that has not been logged into the game within the last 30 days, it will be deleted. Thats the technical details out of the way. So what else is happening?

Due to the loss of game time, Carbine will be rewarding all players with a month’s worth of Boom-Boxes. You can open one per day, and Boom-Boxes contain rare items such as mount customizations, gear, housing decorations and the like. Additionally, all players are getting one day of free game tame, to be credited no later than the end of October. With the move comes the possibility of identical names, so Carbine will be prompting players to add a surname to their characters the first time they log into the new Megaservers. As a happy bonus, if you love your character’s gear, but not their name after 400 hours of gameplay, you will be able to change your name at that time as well. Not that I plan on renaming Shelbybot. That would never happen, because that name isn’t stupid at all. This also extends to Guild names, since it’s entirely likely two guilds on the old servers had the same name. Carbine has also created special channels for players transferring to the Megaservers from French or German realms.

The Megaserver transition is intended to increase server capacity and make it easier to group with friends and guildmates for raiding and PvP. Some see this as an admission on Carbine’s part that WildStar is dying, while others see it as a smart move given that Guild Wars 2 has already made the jump and WoW looks like following suit soon.
