Guild Wars 2 Queen’s Jubilee

Continuing its commitment to delivering players new Guild Wars 2 content every two weeks, NCSOFT and ArenaNet are delighted to announce the Queen’s Jubilee going live today, 6th July. The update is the third since ArenaNet officially adopted a two-week update schedule for Guild Wars 2, setting a pace unmatched by any Western studio and enhancing the game’s Living World through new and exciting content for players of all abilities.

In Queen’s Jubilee, players will celebrate 10 years of Queen Jennah’s rule by opting to take a hot air balloon to Divinity’s Reach, the capital of the human nation of Kryta, and home to the opening ceremony. Once there, players can join the festivities and compete in ceremonial combat in the Crown Pavilion, a new gladiatorial arena Queen Jennah has commissioned for the occasion.

Among the many other new events, rewards and features included in Queen’s Jubilee are the following:

New Events

· Hot Air Balloons: Queen Jennah’s court has sent hot air balloons to transport the inhabitants of Tyria to the celebration. Players can find the hot air balloons in the open world and hop on for a fun, quick and stylish ride to the party.
· The Opening Ceremony: Players can attend the dedication of the Crown Pavilion, a new gladiatorial arena the queen has commissioned for the celebration, and watch its inaugural contest.
· Enter the Crown Pavilion: Players will be tested in this new mini-zone that feature mighty representations of humanity’s enemies. Representing various cities of Tyria, players can be named champion of a nation and gain access to unique reward vendors.
· Fight in the Queen’s Gauntlet: In single combat, players can attempt to defeat increasingly difficult challenges against unique bosses. Taking risks with special gambit conditions will earn more prestigious rewards.

New Rewards

· Watchwork Mechanisms: Watchwork technology – the latest and greatest innovation in Tyria – becomes more important as players can use watchwork parts in new crafting recipes or as currency to buy items like new rune and sigil recipes, Watchknight tonics and the new Sovereign Weapon Set.
· Watchknight Mini: Completing the Queen’s Jubilee meta-achievement will earn players a miniature Watchknight modelled after the queen’s new mechanical sentinels.

New Features

· Account Wallet for Currency: Players can now keep all of their currencies in one wallet that makes dungeon tokens, coins, karma, laurels, Guild Commendations, Fractal Relics, Badges of Honour, gems and glory accessible to any of the characters on their account.
· PvP Solo Arena: With new Solo Arena, players can join PvP matches in a competitive environment without having to gather a full team or fight against a pre-formed group. The Solo Arena also features its own leaderboard, so that players can earn rank without affecting their Team Arena standings.
· Dungeons Bonus Rewards: Now, there’s even more incentive for braving the dungeons of Tyria. Each day, when finishing a unique path for any explorable or story dungeon, players will receive a bonus reward for completion, improving upon the existing system.
· Mini-Game Rotation System: Players can take part in the new, daily mini-game rotation that was promised by both of the Captain’s Council candidates in the previous update. The initial rotation includes Sanctum Sprint, Keg Brawl, Southsun Survival and Crab Toss.

HasuObs And Grubby Rock My World In WCS Europe Round Of 16

OK, so I told Lone I wasn’t going to write about this, but after watching the Starcraft II WCS Europe Round of 16, Group A competition today, I had to share, because the series between HasuObs and Grubby was FRAKKING GORGEOUS. Easily my favorite series of the day, the competition was so intense that it ran nearly double what a standard matchup would have, even going so far as to push back the start of the WCS America broadcast later in the day. Each of these matches is a constant back and forth between two absolute masters bringing everything they had to bear.

The final game of the day between Grubby and MvP, which starts at 28:10, was also incredible, though far shorter. Grubby lost the first game of the series, and often seemed to be right on the verge of losing to MvP’s incredibly aggressive style, but managed to overcome and pull off the wins needed to advance to the round of eight. It’s worth it to stick around to the end to see Grubby’s reaction to his win.

The day ended with German underdog HasuObs taking down former WCS EU champion, and favorite to win, MvP to win the day. MvP then fell in the lower bracket to The Netherlands’ Grubby. Both Grubby and HasuObs will move on to compete with the other winners of the round of 16 groups to play in the days to come.

This day of competition sums up so much of why I love eSports. If this is what it’s like at the round of 16, I can only imagine what the subsequent rounds will be like. The skill and passion displayed by the competitors today was so much fun to watch, and it’s games and players like these that are why eSports will continue to grow.

Everquest Next Announces Destructible World. Also A Buildable One.

For someone who never heard it before a month ago, I seem to be using the word “voxel” with alarming frequency lately.

Everquest Next‘s Director of Development, David Georgeson, has put out word that the next episode in the Everquest saga will have a world completely composed of voxels, and thus, will be completely destructible. According to Georgeson “We can blow up anything at anytime, anywhere.” Both players and monsters will be able to reshape hills, dig valleys, and even knock down city walls all over Norrath. There will even be secret underground caverns that players will have to deliberately dig to find.

This news comes alongside the announcement that, this winter, it will release it’s world building tool, Everquest Next Landmark, for free. This will allow players to build their own dungeons, castles, and whatever else they can come up with in a persistent world inhabited by thousands of fellow players. Each player will be guaranteed a plot of land that no one else can build or destroy on without the owner’s express permission, while any unclaimed land will be a free for all for players to build on. Some of these creations may even be selected to be included in the final version of Everquest Next.

For those of you playing “Bingo, Put Voxels In It Edition” along with me, that adds Fantasy MMO World to Sandbox World (Minecraft), 2D World (Terraria), Zombie Infested World (7 Days To Die), Multiple Worlds In Space (Starmade), and Slightly Less Boxy Sandbox World (Cube World). Please mark your cards accordingly.
