Batman: Arkham Knight release pushed back

It has been announced that the next installment in the Batman: Arkham series has had its release date delayed by a few weeks, pushing it back from June 2nd to June 23rd.

Batman: Arkham Knight was originally supposed to have been released last year but Warner Bros then decided to delay the release until 2015, with the date of June 2nd being announced soon after. This further delay is probably down to wanting to make sure that the game is as functional as possible.

In a press release from the developers they explain the delay by saying “We’re a developer that hates to make any compromises, so we are sorry to say this means it’s going to be just a little bit longer until you can play the epic conclusion to the Arkham trilogy.”

The game will be released on the platforms of PC, Playstation 4 and the Xbox One. Pre-ordering the game will net you the Harley Quinn and Red Hood story packs.

Deep Silver push back Homefront release to 2016

Last year developer Crytek were going through a difficult period. There’d been news of staff going unpaid and some even walking out, but eventually they got back up to speed. To do it though they had to sell off an IP for a game that was  still in development – Homefront: The Revolution. Since then, there’s not been a lot of news about the game.

Now though buying studio Deep Silver have announced that the game’s original release of some time in this year will instead be pushed back a little bit to 2016 instead. They’re developing it with their new UK studio Deep Silver Dambuster Studios in Nottingham, and the delay was decided upon to give Deep Silver Dambuster “every opportunity to turn Homefront: The Revolution into a best-selling title.”

The game itself is an interesting little open-world shooter that’s been compared to Crysis and seems to show promise. Let’s hope that the transition between studios won’t cause any hiccups in the development cycle.

Evolve’s two free new maps launch April 30th

Turtle Rock took a little flack for their game Evolve and its DLC policy. However as part of it they did say that all new maps were going to be made free to all players, and now they’re about to implement two new ones at the end of next month.

The maps, called Broken Hill Mine and Broken Hill Foundry will be exclusive to the Xbox One version until April 30th when they’ll be made available for PC and PS4 players too. They’ll be playable in Hunt, Nest and Rescue modes, as well as part of an Evacuation campaign, a Skirmish or a Custom match.

evolvebhmine

The Mine is basically a map that takes place in a big hole in the planet of Shear that’s had all its valuable minerals mined out already for other things. For the evacuation campaign effects, Hunters can repurpose mining drones into shield drones for the next match while a Monster win will mean earthquakes disturb birds more often in the next round, confusing the Hunters as to the Monster’s actual location.

The Foundry is where a lot of those mined materials go for processing and refining. Evacuation effects sees a Hunter win supercharge their jetpacks with energy-rich bohrium while the same bohrium engulfs the Monster and makes its melee attacks hit harder if the Monster wins.

#EGXRezzed2015: Titan Souls

titan_souls_1

With EGX Rezzed  in full swing, one of the panels I was interested in today was Titan Souls. Being developed by Acid Nerve and published by Devolver Digital, the game places you in the shoes of a tiny pixel hero armed with a bow and one arrow. Your goal is to take down the titular titans. Every fight is a boss fight, pitting you against a foe with only one hit point. Giving a presentation at EGX, they talked a bit about the design philosophy of the game, as well as  demonstrating some of the boss fights.

Interestingly, they revealed that they would gauge the balance of a boss by how many times testers died before beating it. They also expanded a bit upon the idea behind the single hit boss fights, discussing how they wanted it to be relatively easy to remain alive during a fight, but difficult to actually win the fight.  This was, of course, accompanied by a gameplay demo- which ended in a few unfortunate deaths for the devs.

Titan-Souls---Screen-2

With an obvious attention to detail, gorgeous art style and unique one shot, one HP mechanic, Titan Souls is looking better than ever. Keep an eye out for this game when it releases simultaneously on PS4, PS Vita, PC and Mac.

#PAXEast2015: Street Fighter V given release time

The latest Street Fighter game, Street Fighter V, has been given a release date by Capcom. The news came in the form of a PAX East merchandise advertisement, mentioning the release time for both the PC and PS4 version which will feature cross-play functionality.

The game itself was unofficially announced through a game trailer that was accidentally uploaded a little bit too early. After a few days Capcom decided to formally announce that the game was being made, with a demo of it being shown in action at least year’s PlayStation Experience. The advertisement though has revealed more, most importantly that Capcom is aiming for a release time of somewhere in the early part of 2016. The cross-play functionality will allow players on both platforms to interact and play matches against each other.

The Capcom website says of the game “Everyone is fired up for Street Fighter V, coming to PS4 and PC next Spring.”
