#Gamescom2016: Blackwood Crossing

PaperSeven showed off their new story-driven adventure game today on the Twitch livestream at Gamescom – Blackwood Crossing.

Taking part on a train between two orphaned siblings, 14-year-old Scarlet and 10-year-old Finn, you play as Scarlet as she follows her brother through the train and into surreal changing landscapes as we discover the past, present and feelings of both siblings.

Like any good game of this genre you must go around and find clues as to how to proceed, both through items you can pick up and examine closer as well as items set around the landscape around you. Using these to solve puzzles will let you proceed in the game and eventually get to the root of why they are on the train and what has happened.

Indeed, the trailer can explain it a bit better than I can;

As you can see, eventually it gets very dark as we seem to delve almost into an atmosphere shaped by Finn’s own thoughts and feelings as his beloved sister enters teenagehood and grows apart from him. It seems wonderfully rich, and I am curious as to the fully story.

If you too are interested, we’ve been told to expect the game sometime in early 2017, with a simultaneous release on Xbox One, PS4 and Steam. More information can be found at blackwoodcrossing.com.

We’ve had a lot of beautiful looking games over the last few years, one of which, Ori and the Blind Forest, was a favourite here at teh station. Seasons After Fall looks like it will be slotting itself nicely into that group in September when it releases on STEAM and later on consoles.

Seasons After Fall logo animated

The game is beautifully hand drawn and has lots of puzzles and effects like changing the seasons in teh game to make the terrain change and thats how puzzles work.

Seasons After Fall 1

It’s going to be fun to watch on stream for sure and we’re all looking forward to trying this one!

Seasons After Fall 2

Seasons After Fall is out on 2nd September on STEAM and consoles later on.

#GamesCom2016: Mother Russia Bleeds

Mother Russia Bleeds is an ultra-violent co-op brawler overflowing with an unmistakable style and unforgettably brutal action for up to four players at once. Set in an alternate U.S.S.R, the story centers on a desperate crew of imprisoned street fighters that must overcome an oppressive criminal authority and crippling drug addictions through any means necessary. Battle solo or alongside friends locally and online in an exceptional story mode campaign or harden your resolve in a multitude of formidable challenge and versus modes.

In an interesting hark back to teh games I grew up with, Le cartel, a small indie in France has teamed up with Devolver digital to bring us Mother Russia Bleeds, a side scrolling beat’em up in the style of final Fight or Streets of Rage.

Mothere Russia Bleeds 1

Showing off gameplay today at GamesCom, we got to see some of the graphically violent gameplay that immediately felt natural for those of us that grew up on those iconic side scrollers.

The graphics are typically pixel based but incrediblt detailed, and the game play flows really quickly.

Mothere Russia Bleeds 2

The game allows for 4 player co-op with the difficulty increasing/decreasing based ont eh number of players in game aswell.

This looks like a really fun game for a few freinds either on console or pc and is out on PC/Mac/Linux via STEAM on September 5th, with console versions coming a little later

Game Trailer: Yooka-Laylee (#Gamescom2016 Trailer)

Playtonic have released a new trailer for their upcoming game Yooka-Laylee and it looks beautiful.

The trailer takes us through some of the worlds of Yooka-Laylee, showing off our duo as they journey across the world collecting pick ups, using special moves to fight enemies and solve puzzles and even one of the transformations in which both Yooka and Laylee are clearly visible in a snowplough form.

For those who backed Playtonic’s spiritual successor, the elements that Playtonic have brought over from Banjo-Kazooie to Yooka-Laylee will be obvious in this trailer. It looks to be just the 90s-inspired tag team platformer that we hoped for.

Game Trailer: Get Even (#Gamescom2016 Announcement Trailer)

A new trailer has been released for psychological horror game Get Even, putting the release date in Spring 2017 for both consoles and PC. The game was originally announced two years ago, and details have been scarce since the game’s 2016 release window got delayed.

Most of the clues about the game have come from the brief descriptions of it as a first-person shooter that would blend singelplay and multiplayer elements to create a distorted game world, and the snippets of gameplay and trailers we’ve had which now includes this one. The trailer itself is mainly atmospheric and shows off a girl with a bomb strapped to her chest, a mental asylum and is generally mostly intended to set a scene.

Hopefully the date isn’t going to be moved again and more details will soon be released. Check out the trailer below:
