Ubisoft launch Far Cry contest with cave stay prize

So, soon the latest Far Cry game will be out. Far Cry Primal takes everything back to the beginnings of human society, with the emphasis put onto whatever you can craft with your hands, tribal decor and wild animal companions. And to promote the game which will release at the end of February, Ubisoft are running a contest for one lucky winner and a friend to… spend a night in a cave.

… No. Seriously. I’m not making this up.

The cave itself is located in France in the Pyrénées area and apparently staying in the cave isn’t cheap. Here’s the layout of the trip’s events:

  • Day 1 – Sunday January 30th 2016: travel from the airport nearby residency place to Lourdes-Tarbes Airport, France.
  • Night 1- Sunday January 30th 2016: stay in an hotel in Lourdes city.
  • Day 2 – Monday February 1st 2016: transportation by car to the cave and survival training (discovery of techniques and methods in the wildlife).
  • Night 2 – Monday February 1st 2016: night in the cave.
  • Day 3 – Tuesday February 2nd 2016: travel back (transportation from the cave to the airport/train station + flight/train).

So, a little bit more than just plonking two people in a cave for a night. All costs for accomodation, travel, transport and catering costs are being paid for by the sponsor and Ubisoft have estimated it’ll cost €2,800 which is a fair bit.

If this sounds like your cup of tea then you can enter their prize draw by tweeting the official Far Cry Primal Twitter with the #cavebnb tag and briefly saying why you should win the contest. Simple.

SMITE World Championships 2016 Starts Today

SWC-2016

Its a new year, and that can mean only one thing if you are a fan of HiRez Studio’s third person action MOBA SMITE: The Smite World Championships start today. In fact, through the magic of the internet this post should be going live just about the time the opening ceremonies start. Teams from all around the world have fought through their own regional seasons and HiRez has brought the winners of each league to Atlanta, GA to fight for the title of World Champion.

The first day of competition will be the placing round. Only two teams have earned a bye on this round, Cloud9 G2A and Paradigm. The rest of the competitors will have to fight their way into the Quarterfinals via a Best of 1 format. Once the contenders for the Quarterfinals have been decided, the tournament will switch to a Best of 3 format, with the grand finals being a Best of 5.

You can expect some very tense matches over the first day of competition leading into the quarterfinals. The Australian, Chinese and Latin American teams have a lot to prove as they step onto the world stage, most of them for the first time. North America and Europe will look to defend their dominance in the Smite competitive scene. Cloud9 G2A in particular looks to repeat as world champions.

Also on display will be Xbox One Smite, with four invitational leagues. It promises to be a great weekend for you if you love SMITE. And if you are there, send us some tweets from the show floor!

Rainbow Six DLC delayed by a month.

At the moment Rainbow Six Siege is thrilling people who are into counter-terrorism games… and those of us who love to watch our friends die to a suicidal NPC covered in bombs. Now the news has emerged that its first DLC will not be coming as soon as expected.

The DLC named Black Ice has now been delayed until February, coming the 2nd for season pass holders and a week later on the 9th for those without. The DLC had been scheduled to release sometime this month, but the change was announced over Twitter after a fan noticed that there was conflicting information on the game’s official site and Ubisoft’s own support pages.

Black Ice will come with two new characters as well as a new map, with season pass holders getting the characters immediately and non-pass holders having to earn those characters through spending in-game cash or the real-life equivalent. The map is free to all though.

This is just the first of Siege’s DLC, of which Ubisoft suggested there could be up to eight. All are said to be unlockable without spending real-life money though if enough hours are put into the game.

Galactic Outfitting Weekly #1

Galactic Outfitting Weekly

Welcome everyone to Galactic Outfitting Weekly! Each week we’ll be taking you through the newest and coolest stuff Frontier puts on the Elite Dangerous store. With the launch of Horizons and Christmas just around the corner, Frontier has tons of new items up on the store, so lets dive right in.

First up,bobble heads. Those who were in the early betas for Elite might remember the cute little bobble head that rode on your dashboard. If, like me, you were dismayed when they were removed in the full release, you can now do a little happy dance. Bobble heads can now be purchased and used to decorate that boring old ship dashboard. But who wants boring pilot obbleheads when you can have a Christmas tree! Or, a collection of letters numbers and symbols you can use to spell whatever you want right on your ship’s dash. You can place up to ten bobble heads on the dashboards of most ships, allowing plenty of creative freedom in placing them, as well as cluttering up your otherwise pristine flight deck. The Christmas tree will set you back a modest three pounds, while the mix and match letters, of which there are a total of 71 alphanumeric symbols comes in at a slightly heftier ten pounds. Still, that’s not to much to pay for the ability to spell hashtag bad lone on my ships dash on stream!

If you’re feeling particularly festive and the tree bobble just isn’t enough for you, don’t worry. Frontier has dropped three sets of festive paint packs on us. The Asp, Cobra, and Sidewinder all get a little love  with swirls, snowflakes and stars replacing the normal two toned paint schemes. Best of all, each paint pack contains six different variants, meaning there’s sure to be one that you love.  In testing them out, we found that adding additional decals  tends to mar the look of the paintjob, so you may want to remove all those onionhead stickers for these.

Lastly, the Cobra Mk IV gets sweet skins as it blasts into the HOrizons expansion pack. The pack contains three variants, approved by Faulcon De Lacey themselves and sporting a nice military digital camo pattern. The Cobra Mk IV has unique lines compared to the other version of the ship, so it’s fitting that it gets it’s own nifty paint jobs as well. As if the ship wasn’t awesome enough, right?

Thats it for this first installment of Galactic Outfitting Weekly, but don’t worry. We’ll be back as long as Frontier keeps making awesome stuff for Elite.
