Gameplay Trailer: Torbjörn Gameplay Preview

Blizzard have recently been putting out a lot of video content for their upcoming game Overwatch, putting out gameplay of full matches being played by certain characters. So far Reaper, Tracer, Mercy and others have been covered and now it’s the turn of engineer Torbjörn.

Torbjörn’s skill is in the building of turrets to assist in assault and defence, and he does it by gathering scrap metal dropped by dead enemies to put together a turret. He can then further upgrade its abilities using more scrap. He can also drop armour cores for his allies to use for a defence buff and can overheat his armour for his Ultimate ability which ups his stats in armour, attack, building and repairs.

Check out the video here:

Overwatch is scheduled to enter open Beta in the autumn.

Trouble for Desura as parent company go bankrupt

Desura is a bit like Steam, a digital distribution store for PC games, although focused mainly on the indie gaming market. Recently Desura’s been having a little trouble, with devs of games complaining about not being paid the money from sales for months at a time.

While at the time Desura were reassuring the developers that they would be paid, and put the delays down to the change of ownership (Desura was previously owned by Linden Lab who developed Second Life before it was sold to Bad Juju their current owner) and the illness of the CEO; it seems that it was a symptom of worse to come. Bad Juju have just filed for bankruptcy.

Desura did not have an automated system but was apparently working on one while they made manual payments to the developers. With the new development in the financial situation of its parent company though, it’s unknown if the missing money will be paid out at all or if it is how much and when.

Tony Novak, CEO of Bad Juju, has been quoted as saying that he is unable to answer questions yet under advice of lawyers. It’s hoped that more details will be made public soon.

HTC Vive dev kits sent out to game developers

HTC’s Vive VR headset still has some things to prove if it’s ever going to be a contender with the second generation of Oculus’ well-known Rift headset, but they’re beginning now to send out developer kits to certain people to allow for the games to be developed for their headset.

The Vive is of course a joint venture between HTC and Valve’s SteamVR technology and the developer kit comes with a Vive headset, two Lighthouse base stations which pick up the signals from the two wireless Steam VR controllers to allow for the virtualisation of hand movements within the virtual reality setting and further adds to the sense of player immersion. The kit also contains cables and instructions to help developers along with their games before the Vive ships out to consumers later this year.

Limited numbers of the dev kits have been sent out, with recipients including major film studios and game developers both of the AAA standard and smaller indies who are newer to game development.

Hearthstone’s new Hero is Warrior Magni Bronzebeard

Yesterday we had a teaser from Blizzard about something new coming to the game of Hearthstone soon. Today, we found out just what was coming and the guesses were right on the money: it’s a new Hero for the Warrior class.

The Hero in question is Magni Bronzebeard, king of Ironforge. He’ll come with his own voiced emotes and Hero Power animation, although the Power itself is still the +2 Armour that Garrosh had previously. Blizzard’s blog post to announce Magni also makes it clear that he’s not alone, there will be more New Heroes coming soon.

Currently the Heroes are set to be a purchasable thing, priced at around £6 for British players and $9.99 for the North American territories with the Hero itself coming with a unique cardback themed after them.

So far Blizzard have set no release date for Magni or the other upcoming New Heroes. Although I’m guessing that we’ll know once the rest of them appear.

Arenanet Reveals Guild Wars 2’s Revenant Staff and Abilities

The next Legend for Revenants has been revealed and along with it, a new weapon!

A lot of us have been saying for awhile how cool it would be for a profession to get Staff as a melee weapon, and now we got our wish. The newest weapon for Revenants is the Staff and it is used as a melee weapon.

GW2 HoT Revenant staff 1

As Roy Cronacher explains in today’s blog post they wanted to turn the normal use of staff on its head the same way they changed up how Revenants use Hammer skills. Their Staff skills will use a mix of martial and magical abilities.

Additionally some of the specifics of how channeling Ventari will work for Revenants was also revealed. All of Ventari’s skills will be powered through his tablet, in fact when you first switch to Legendary Centaur stance you’ll only have the ability to summon the tablet available. After you do that the skill slots will fill out with the rest of the abilities.

The skill Protective Solace forms a barrier around the tablet which destroys enemy projectiles. In the same way as the Hammer skill which keeps two hammers spinning around the Revenant, Protective Solace is the upkeep skill for Staff. Additionally the tablet (and thus the barrier itself) can be moved while it is active.
