Minecraft pre-release 1.8.2 is out

It was a little overshadowed by their release of Scrolls, but Mojang have managed to put out the first pre-release for 1.8.2 of Minecraft, just before the holidays. It isn’t a large update though, just one that gives us some performance tweaks and bug fixes.

The main bug fixes are to three reported issues. Firstly Spectator Mode players were still getting hostile mobs aggroing on them, following them about and trying to attack them; despite being incorporeal and invisible. That should no longer happen now. The second related to explosion forces being directionally biased, pushing harder in some directions than others. The third fixed some physic issues with explosions too, so certain TNT cannons should no longer be able to shoot ridiculously far.

182-pre1

As well as the update including the normal things, Mojang also says that it includes “cookies, milk and of course lots of hugs” and warns us not to open our gifts before Christmas before wishing us all a happy holidays.

I look forward to seeing how Minecraft develops in the new year, especially after Microsoft took ownership of Mojang. It should be interesting at least.

Game Trailer: Evolve – Wraith Interactive Trailer

Evolve was very much one of the games that I saw in 2014 and thought to myself “Yes, I am interested in this game” and after playing a round at i51 with a friend and 3 other event-goers, I wanted it. The release date was pushed back to next year but there’s already been an alpha for Xbox owners and PC gamers.

Now Turtle Rock have released a new trailer to demonstrate their next ‘boss’ monster – Wraith. It’s an actual match played with the creature and its interactive in that you can switch between the viewpoints of all the players as you watch. Just make sure the annotations are on when you watch the video:

As a creature Wraith is more of a quick and deadly attacker, but suffers somewhat on armour and health. They can enter the shadows to evade the hunters or sneak up on them, deploy a decoy to confuse their foes, or even snatch up and abduct the hunters before killing them. Given that you’re much more likely to win a game of Evolve on the hunter side by sticking together, that’s quite the offensive ability to have.

Evolve will be coming early 2015, and pre-orders are available. You get an additional monster if you do so it might be worth it.

Telltale and Mojang to work on game – Minecraft: Story Mode

Well, this is something none of us saw coming…

Telltale have announced that they’re going to make a new game, based off another popular game. That game? Minecraft.

mcstorymode

It’ll be an adventure game and it’s called Minecraft: Story Mode. Despite the name though, this is a stand-alone title, not a new game mode being added to Minecraft. It’s also going to follow in the tradition of other Telltale games such as The Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us in that it will be episodic. Right now they are collaborating with Mojang and the Minecraft community in an attempt to make it as Minecrafty as possible. Telltale say that it will premier in 2015 for consoles, computers and mobile.

Mojang themselves have spoken about the game, saying it will not be an adventure for long-standing default avatar ‘Steve’ (or we assume ‘Alex’ the other default added in 1.8) nor will it go into details about the world of Minecraft itself.

Xbox One Unity Patch 4 is downloading the entire game

Well, that Patch 4 has been released for Assassin’s Creed Unity. And fittingly, it’s come with yet another problem for Ubisoft.

The regular patch is already fairly large at 6.7 GB to fix most if not all of the rest of the issues with the game. Somehow though they’ve made a mistake with the Xbox One version which means users will end up redownloading the entire game. All 40GB worth of it. Yikes.

acunitybugs2

Writing about the issue on the official Assassin’s Creed site Ubisoft stated “Unfortunately, an issue with the patch downloading process is replacing the entire game instead of just the parts affected by the patch. This is obviously not the expected behavior, and we apologize that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download.”

They went on to say they are working with Microsoft to find the problem so the download size can be cut down and that at the moment they have no ETA on when players can expect this to be. However if you own the disc version, you can simply uninstall then reinstall and it should download and install just the 6.7 GB patch instead of trying to download the whole game over again.

Patch 4 comes with many fixes, including some to framerate and performance issues that required an entire rebuild of the Paris map which accounts for the large size even of just the patch alone.

Valve change their minds; Hatred Greenlight is active again

Sometimes just when you think a story is over, it suddenly surprises you by developing in a way you didn’t see coming.

Last night I wrote an article talking about Hatred, the controversial mass-murder game, and how its Greenlight campaign had lasted only a few hours before it got taken down by Valve. during that time is managed to gain over 13k up votes and was 7th on the most wanted games for Greenlight and it seems that somehow, in some way it might have made Valve change their mind.

Yes, that’s right. Hatred’s Greenlight page is back up.

Details about exactly why the decision was reversed aren’t currently known, but Destructive Creations’ Facebook has posted up a screenshot of what appears to be an e-mail from Gabe himself.

hatredgabeemail

“Yesterday I heard that we were taking Hatred down from Greenlight. Since I wasn’t up to speed, I asked around internally to find out why we had done that. It turns out that it wasn’t a good decision, and we’ll be putting Hatred back up. My apologies to you and your team. Steam is about creating tools for content creators and customers.

Good luck with your game.

Gabe.”

Do you support this decision?
