Game Trailer: Saints Row: Gat out of Hell — Dev Walkthrough #1

Saints Row fans are currently waiting on the release of a standalone expansion for Saints Row IV, Gat Out of Hell. It’ll see the ever-popular Johnny Gat and Kinzie taken to Hell and obviously in typical Saints Row fashion, it will be totally over the top and very very funny. One of the new weapons is a lounger with guns attached for example… yeah.

Just to show us a little of what can be expected, the people over at Deep Silver have put up what is hinted (by the #1 in the title) to be the first of a series of dev walkthroughs for Gat Out of Hell.

This time we’re getting a tour of  New Hades, the city featured in the game.

Steam’s new update could finally be helping the indies again

Steam pushed through an update a few days ago. You probably already knew this, the talk about ‘Steam Curators’ has been everywhere recently as people get used to having a list of recommended games to show their friends and people who check out their profiles. Of course, it’s not the only part of the update that’s been making a difference.

Steam Discovery is a bit like the predictive advertising we see pretty much everywhere online now. It gathers data based on what you’re looking at games-wise then lists a choice of games you might be interested in, based on what you looked at and what other Steam users have purchased in the past. This combined with the Curator part means that suddenly some games are getting a lot more visibility all of a sudden.

Indies in particular seem to be seeing some large spikes in sales, with numbers of people liking pages on the games climbing and sales also reaching some high points for well-made indies that have already been out for an amount of time. In a modern Steam where Greenlight and Early Access had contributed to making a place it was hard to get yourself noticed, this is very good news indeed.

Blizzard cancel secret MMO project Titan

After a period of about seven years, Blizzard have announced that they’ve decided not to continue with project Titan, having not found whatever spark made World of Warcraft work for them.

In an interview with Polygon the developer spoke about the project and said that the team just “didn’t find the fun” in the game.

blizzard_1

“We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that’s the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no.” said Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime.

While he admitted that the idea of Titan had some cool hooks they just couldn’t find the idea coming together properly, finding that it couldn’t distill and that the music didn’t flow properly through the experience meaning that they had to make the call about not continuing with the project.

He also admitted that Blizzard weren’t wanting to be known as the “the MMORPG company”, although with a bunch of other games of different genres to WoW on their roster (Heroes of the Storm, Starcraft II, Hearthstone) it’s fair to say that MMORPG isn’t the only genre Blizzard have been shown to do well with. Morhaime did say that another MMO wasn’t to be ruled out in Blizzard’s future though.

It just won’t be Titan.

draelock

First is the items for their mostly widely known game, World of Warcraft. As part of the tie-in to the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion release the WoW item this time round is an exclusive pet: a baby Murloc who seems to be cosplaying as Grommash Hellscream, the leader of the Warsong clan.

blizzcon14back

For Hearthstone players the item is a new and exclusive card back for Blizzcon 2014, designed around the compass design that is emblazened in the Blizzard courtyard.

starcraftstuff

Starcraft II players can receive a pair of portraits, one of Hierarch Artanis and the second to be revealed at a later date, as well as a decal inspired by the upcoming Heroes of the Storm MOBA game.

nexusstorm

Speaking of Heroes of the Storm, even this not-yet-released game gets an item in the virtual ticket pack. Purchasers can receive a Nexus Mount as well as a portrait of the mysterious Nexus Brawler for the game.

weapontransmogs

Finally if you’re a Diablo III player the items on offer are six different weapon transmogrifications, one for each class in the game, based again on the upcoming Warlords of Draenor.

Blizzcon is happening at the beginning of November. Our glorious leader Lonesamurai has already decided that he’s buying a virtual ticket to watch the event and receive the listed goodies. What about you?
