Tri Synergy reveals new X Rebirth Trailer and Limited Edition Contents

Get ready for a visual delight. The latest X Rebirth trailer provides a montage of gameplay action that can’t help but touch the Sci-Fi fan in each of us.

The November 15th release is fast approaching!!

For 14 years studio Egosoft has been synonymous with space simulation games. Starting with the 1999 release of X: Beyond the Frontier to the 2011 release of X3: Albion Prelude (not to mention the numerous notable expansions, the most recent being the 2013 Shady Business expansion), Egosoft has pushed the boundaries of what a space simulation game can be.

But X Rebirth is Different.

All prior X Games before X Rebirth represent the layering upon layering of additional features, many of which were never part of the game’s original design. Responding to the large community of space simulation fans that flocked to X: Beyond the Frontier, the developers at Egosoft obliged the plea for more – more freedom, more ships, more realism, and more things to do. However, even before the 2005 release of X3: Reunion, it had become clear that this development methodology had made the series inherently complicated and unnecessarily impenetrable for any outsider who had not begun playing the X Series games from the very start.

The solution? To start anew.

X Rebirth represents the culmination of 7 years of work redefining what a space simulation can be.

So, onto the X Rebirth Limited Edition Box Version

The additional content for the Limited Edition Box Version of X Rebirth have been finalized!
– Updated Color X Encyclopedia (ebook)
– Art Book of Concept Art (printed)
– Player’s Manual (printed)
– Sountrack
– Bonus Videos

Pre-Orders for the X Rebirth Limited Edition Box Version is now available at the Tri Synergy Store

Definitely looks great and well worth preordering we think

Wild Games Studio accused of removing critical review video for Day One: Garry’s Incident

The above tweets were the first many of us knew of the problems that TotalBiscuit had been having for the last few days with one of his videos on Day One: Garry’s Incident being copyright claimed.

Today, we got the full explanation from the man in video form.

TotalBiscuit of course is a very popular Youtuber and a respected game reviewer. A lot of people listen to him and his ‘WTF is…?’ series was set up for the express purpose of reviewing games so that people could avoid the pitfall of buying a game that might not be for them, or in some cases just plain bad. That was the series that reviewed the aforementioned game, a review that was very critical of the game, then became copyright claimed and taken down through Youtube’s copyright claim system, with claims being made from Wild Games Studio‘s CEO Stephane that TB didn’t have the right to place ads onto the video and make money from a video containing their content.

TotalBiscuit of course is licensed to monetise his videos through the network he is a part of: Polaris, formerly known as The Game Station. Agreements were reached that the networks would police their members to ensure copyright standards were met and in return game content could be fairly used for things such as commentaries and reviews. However copyright claims can still be made by companies which will result in videos instantly being taken down and a strike issued against the account unless they can successfully appeal or, as in TotalBiscuit’s case, have a network backing them up to help get the strikes removed (TB previously got two against his account for old Sega-based content about a year back which were removed).

In the video TB makes a number of points with aid of screencaps of e-mail messages and forums posts that show that Wild Games Studio had opportunity to check out TB’s other WTF is…? videos (all monetised) and had previously encouraged people to make Youtube videos of their game. He also notes that other, less popular critical video reviews had not been removed. Only his, which of course reaches many people because of his large audience.

Kotaku have since contacted Wild Game Studios for a comment on the video and have been told that “after seeing all the negative impact today we decided to withdraw our complaint to YouTube.”
Regardless, although people might not always agree with TotalBiscuit’s opinions, he is a man who backs up his views with evidence and in the video he makes a very good case against Wild Game Studios. The studio might just have messed with the wrong man by taking down the original review…

Pokémon X and Y: now with added Roller-skates

Welcome to Kalos, a lovely picturesque region with a certain je ne sais quoi (eww I feel dirty all of a sudden) that no Poké-region has had before.

With its mix of stately homes, Gothic castles and iconic towers Kalos subtly reminds players of a more European landscape. (Providing you spell subtly like this “SUBTLY!!!”)

In this Poké-venture you can choose from two characters Calem and Serena,

now in any Pokémon game you can rename your characters but in X & Y is the first time you can actually customise what the look like, now this is nowhere near as extensive as in most games but for Pokémon this is a massive step in the right direction you truly do start to care about what the character wears or what hairstyle it has and why the hell isn’t there an option for spikey hair!

But I digress during your adventure you come across numerous new Pokémon, as well as a whole host of the originals. The biggest change to the Pokémon this outing is the addition of FAIRY types.

How this affects the core gameplay is as follows:

Warning the following section is for serious Poké-nerds

So this new type will seriously reduce the overwhelming force that is DRAGON type providing a 2X offensive multiplier and a 0X defensive edge meaning it can deal massive damage and suffer nothing in return. This will affect top end dragon teams massively making Dialga the only DRAGON type with the typing to take down a FAIRY safely due to its secondary STEEL typing providing a 2X damage boost and 1/2X defensive multiplier to protect it. Needless to say full DRAGON competitive teams are a thing of the past.

Hello again sorry about that, another addition are the almighty mega evolutions these give a massive temporary stat boost to selected Pokémon (for a full list see: http://www.serebii.net/xy/megaevolutions.shtml ) this gave me a massive buzz not just for the new games but to go back and retrain Pokémon that I had used in the past.

These new forms reach a whole new level of butt clenching excitement when seen in the new 3D art style. I’m a massive fan of good sprite work most of the time I prefer it to 3D models but the way Gamefreak have implemented the cell shading make you feel like you’re inside the cartoon. There are a couple of issues that the new art style has caused, the first being the frame rate during battles even with the 3D turned off the battles will lag for unknown reasons, it’s not massive but it’s enough to be noticeable which is bad in a game as highly polished as Pokémon.

The last issue with the visuals is the 2d art for trainer battles I don’t know why they’re not modelled and it really breaks the immersion and what worse is the artwork doesn’t even look anything like the anime or even that of the older games.

Anyway we’ll move on to the lovely soundtrack, this is easily the best music in any of the Pokémon games as soon as you turn the game on you’re smacked in the mouth by a mind-blowing orchestral rendition of the opening theme, and to be honest if I had smiled any wider in be invading Arkham Asylum right now. Every song in the game feels smooth and fitting, using European instruments like the Melodeon and Violin, and the relaxed string rendition of the Poké-centre theme stops me from even caring about the fact that I’m stuck in the eternal loop of nurse joy asking me if there’s anything else she can do!!! WHY I THAT STILL AN OPTION SHE DOES ONE JOB.

Overall

So has Pokémon gone stale after Gen 6?

Oh god no! it’s as fun as it ever was back when I first picked up my Squirtle in 1999, and as I get ready to face the Elite Four  with my now trusty Mega Blastoise I’d say to anyone this is a must have game.

And to all my so called friend how tell me that at 21 it’s sad to play Pokémon I shall say

GOTTA CATCH ‘EM ALL!

Also ride-able Pokémon and roller skates WOOOOOOOOOO!!!
