New chip claims to be 25-percent faster than the competition.

Last month, NVIDIA introduced its latest top of the line mobile processor, the GTX 580M, which they claimed was the "fastest notebook GPU," but today AMD threw down the gauntlet with the announcement of the Radeon HD 6990M, claiming it is, in fact, the fastest, boasting 25-percent faster performance than any competing product.
The chip is DirectX 11-ready and sports AMD's HD3D technology for 3D gaming support. Specs include 2GBs of integrated GDDR5 memory 1.6 teraFlops computing, and 1120 stream processing units. The HD 6990M can output to up to six simultaneous displays, as well as support for dual GPU CrossFireX configurations for double the processing power.
Like the NVIDIA GTX 580M, Alienware's M18x will be one of the first products to use AMD's new supercharged mobile GPU.
