Apple secures temporary EU ban on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Apple has struck a blow against rival Samsung in the battle of the tablet computers after a German court ruled the latter must cease selling and marketing its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the European Union (EU).

The companies have been involved in a patent dispute, with the US firm accusing its Korean counterpart of copying the design of its iPhone and iPad.

Samsung has said it will challenge the ruling, which applies to all EU nations except the Netherlands.

Customs officers have been ordered to seize any shipments of the devices.

A spokeswoman for Samsung remarked: "Samsung is disappointed with the court's decision and we intend to act immediately to defend our intellectual property rights through the ongoing legal proceedings in Germany and will actively continue to defend these rights throughout the world."

Sarah Rotman Epps, a senior analyst at Forrester, told the Daily Telegraph recently that Apple will continue to dominate the tablets market, as none of its competitors offer as complete a package as the US company.
