THQ's Red Faction Franchise Comes to An End

Earlier this year, THQ and Volition released Red Faction: Armageddon. This was the fourth, and as we learned today, final entry into the Red Faction series that took players to a human-colonized Mars in the future.

Unfortunately, THQ just hasn't been seeing the levels of sales that they need from the franchise and have announced that, at this time, they "do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way."

While it is never good news to see a franchise close its doors, there is one bright spot in this story. Volition, Inc - the team who has worked on Red Faction since day one - will not be closed and as of now there are no layoffs announced. Volition has instead been reassigned to another THQ project; Guillermo del Toro's inSane, a survival horror game.

That is a shame I personally thought the the last 2 entries were pretty good games, nothing special, but these days what game is truly special. It is a shame it had not got the sales they had expected, especially when a game like harry potter will probably sell more and is of inferior quality. This is very similar to Mirrors Edge which again I fought was an amazing game and was looking forward to a sequel for a very long time, but unfortunately its fate is the same as the red faction franchise.
