Firefox Beta 6 Release Notes

v.6.0, offered to beta channel users on July 8th, 2011

Thank you for helping us test the future of Firefox! If you do not wish to participate in the beta program, you can switch to the release channel or manually install the latest released version of Firefox.

What’s New in Firefox Beta

The latest version of Firefox Beta has the following changes:
  • The address bar now highlights the domain of the website you're visiting
  • Streamlined the look of the site identity block
  • Added support for the latest draft version of WebSockets with a prefixed API
  • Added support for EventSource / server-sent events
  • Added support for window.matchMedia
  • Added Scratchpad, an interactive JavaScript prototyping environment
  • Added a new Web Developer menu item and moved development-related items into it
  • Improved usability of the Web Console
  • Improved the discoverability of Firefox Sync
  • Reduced browser startup time when using Panorama

Known Issues

This list covers some of the known problems with Firefox Beta which will be resolved in future versions:
All Systems
  • For some users, scrolling in the main GMail window will be slower than usual (see bug 579260)
  • If you try to start Firefox using a locked profile, it will crash (see bug 573369)
Microsoft Windows
  • Some users of Adobe Reader X have experienced instability when viewing PDF documents in the browser. Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader X has been determined to resolve the issue (see bug 640901)
Mac OS X
  • This version of the beta will not work on Macintosh hardware with Power PC CPUs (see bug 587799)
Linux and Unix
  • The video control buttons may not work when viewing QuickTime videos with libtotem (see bug 625036)
  • Users compiling from source might need a newer gcc and libstdc++ as the build requirements have changed (see bug 578880)
