Neverwinter_Cover_Splash

The MMO world is currently in a bit of a lull, but Neverwinter is reporting quite a bit of success following its launch on Xbox One.

According to the official site, over 1.6 million players have downloaded the game, creating some 2.3 million characters, and slaying over 1 billion enemies. They even put together an infographic to show it all off.

WildStar Could Be Going F2P This August

Wildstar Logo

WildStar, the MMO from Carbine studios could be going free to play this August. A recent post on Reddit from a user claiming to be a Carbine employee has posted several details about the game’s future. Apparently, the game will be going to a “Hybrid Free to Play model in August,”. While this won’t be pay to win, there will be the ability to use microtransactions for things like XP gains and buffs. What the exact nature of this system will be is, of course, not fully known.

Of further interest, WIldStar will apparently be coming to Steam as the Steam database now includes an entry for the game. Valve has also apparently visited the studio offices, according to the poster “God_of_EDM”.

Carbine and WildStar haven’t been in the best shape recently with World of Warcraft stealing a significant percentage of the WildStar playerbase back with the most recent expansion, and considerable turnover at Carbine studios. Maybe going f2p will work for WildStar, and maybe not. Only time will tell.

What do you think? If WildStar does go free to play, will you give it a shot? let us know!

Rumours of a cinematic Fallout 4 trailer to be shown at E3

Fallout 4 is becoming a bit of a game legend akin to Half-Life 3. People are so sure it’s coming and want it so badly they will look anywhere and everywhere for confirmation. Now a new rumour has emerged.

The rumour states that Bethesda hired Mirada Studios, an animation house set up by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, to create a cinematic trailer for Fallout 4. If so it’s likely that it’ll be shown at Bethesda’s event at E3, for which the rumours have already been flying will be the announcement place for the forth Fallout game.

The source is an employee whodse LinkedIn profile lists working at Mirada Studios as a Contract 3D Artist between the months of December ‘14 and March ‘15, who claims to have been working on the trailer itself for Bethesda. The same artists had also done work with another studio for cinematic trailers of both Far Cry 4 and The Elder Scrolls.

So far it’s just another unconfirmed rumour. All we gamers can do is wait until the event at E3 on Sunday, June 14th and see what news emerges from it.

Australian Steam prices up by 10%

As part of their 2015 budget, Australia is set to introduce a new tax on ‘intangible’ digital imports which will include media from television and film all the way to video games.

Nicknamed the ‘Netflix tax’ by the Australians, it’ll add 10% to the price of any purchasable download from outside Australia and has been introduced to combat the fact that digital downloads are not subject to the country’s Goods and Services Tax.

Australian federal treasurer Joe Hockey said about the tax: “It is plainly unfair that a supplier of digital products into Australia is not charging the GST whilst someone locally has to charge the GST. When the GST legislation was originally drafted, it did not anticipate the massive growth in the supply of digital goods like movie downloads, games and e-books from overseas.”

The tax is set to add a further 350 million Australian dollars to the pot over the next four years. It’ll have an effect on Steam, Netflix and many other big online e-shops around the net.
