The Forest has a bit of a reputation. It’s still in Early Access but enough people have played it for us to know that as a game it can be terribly frustrating but still somehow great fun, despite the several things that could end your survival run. It’s fairly realistic if you ignore the mutant cannibals.

Now Endnight Games are bringing out a patch that will allow you to share that experience with a friend in what they’ve called their “first pass” at a co-op mode for the game. Obviously this does mean it’s still full of bugs, the most major of which is that saving a co-op game wipes a single-player save although a fix is being worked on to stop this from happening.
The full list of updates are as follows:
- Slowed down tennis ball throw massively so players can play catch together on beach
- (multiplayer)Server configuration screen – This will automatically tell you your public ip address – This is temp, server browser or better Steam integration coming soon!
- (multiplayer)Chat box – Press enter to type messages to each other – This is temp and may be buggy!! Voice chat is coming soon! (we’re modeling walkie-talkies)
- (multiplayer)Player texture variation, run around with your survivalist buddy!
- (multiplayer)First pass at player respawn system, on dead try and find way back to body to collect your belongings
- Fixed bug where building a bench could cause save games to break
- Fixed female skin being too dark
- Rest of skinny animation variations added

Five Nights at Freddy’s was a bit of a surprise hit. It got the attention of a number of prominent Let’s Players on Youtube, and from there the game’s popularity just exploded. It could be called a good example of why Let’s Plays and Youtube have become very effective tools in getting a game out there to a wide audience. The sequel was announced back in September and Scott Cawthon has been releasing teaser images and a trailer since then. A demo was released on November 10th and we were told that we could expect to see the game released on Christmas at the earliest…
… Yeah, this is a game about murderous animatronics sneaking up on you as well as vague and sometimes misleading instructions being given to you; so maybe it isn’t a surprise that the full game released last night on Steam, springing at you with the sudden shock of one of its antagonists. Even better, the person in-game giving you that sometimes misleading information is actually voiced by Cawthon… how’s that for weirdly meta?

Anyway, to the game itself and you find yourself as the night guard for the newly reopened Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. Once again you aim to survive five nights, six hours long each, and keep away or fend off the place’s animatronics who for some reason would dearly love to forcefully make you one of them.
The bad news first, the first game had four main animatronics and one easter egg one (who was fairly easy to deal with). This game has not only those four, but their ‘re-designed’ versions (the ‘Toy’ animatronics), as well as a balloon vendor child animatron, the easter egg and… well, something that isn’t an animatronic and you really do not wish to meet in the dark hallways after hours. That means you’re dealing with eleven antagonists in this game, although you will probably not have to deal with all of them at once until you get late in the game. Add to that one of the trailer’s boasts – no doors. This time you can’t shut them out, and they will enter your office and get up close and personal.

So how do you beat them? The good news is that this time the management has kept the power on overnight, although you do have a flashlight you use to light up rooms and the corridor outside your office and that does have a power limit. Also, if you find that they’re getting too close for comfort you have a spare Fazbear head to slip on which will fool most of the animatronics and make them leave, although it doesn’t work on all of them. There’s also a music box that can be wound up remotely from one of the cameras that will keep the one antagonist you really don’t want to meet locked away, so you need never deal with them.
If you’ve got the stomach for it, or just have been looking forward to the game you can buy it on Steam now for £5.59/$7.99.

Yet another Call of Duty game is out, with Advanced Warfare garnering some positive feedback for trying to update the same old formula that CoD is fond of re-using every release. Seems there are some other things about CoD Sledgehammer would like to change – namely its reputation for being the go-to game for toxic behaviour.
“In the fringes of a lot of areas of society there are examples of people behaving poorly,” he said. “I certainly wouldn’t characterise the community of fans I know and had the pleasure to engage with as toxic or misogynistic.” Slegehammer’s Michael Condrey told BBC Newsbeat.

The types of toxic behaviours being talked about include anything from ‘inappropriate emblems’ to misogynistic abuse. Condrey urges players not to engage in anything that could be damaging or hurtful to other players while playing online.
“I don’t want that around,” he said. “Come to the game to have fun, come to be social, come to enjoy and build a community and have a positive energy.” He warned that, “Sledgehammer Games have pretty low tolerance for toxic behaviour.”
What do you think it’d take to clear CoD’s community of its reputation? Comment below!

It was announced earlier that Fullscreen, a large Youtube MCN has recently acquired the digital studio Rooster Teeth.
Fullscreen, itself recently acquired by Otter Media (a joint venture between AT&T and the Chernin Group) have said they want to expand Rooster Teeth’s large audience and content production capabilities with both live and animated content. The studio itself was formed in 2003, beginning with the popular long-running machnima/animation Red vs Blue based off the Halo franchise and has since moved into the production of many other things, such as animated show RWBY, a number of podcasts and a successful second part of the company under the Achievement Hunter umbrella. A yearly event called RTX is also held each year in Texas to celebrate all things Rooster Teeth.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, however the studio will continue to run as a subsidiary in Austin, with Matt Hullum remaining the CEO of the company and ‘Burnie’ Burns remaining as its creative director.
“With Fullscreen, we look forward to continuing that tradition in even bigger and better ways,” Burns said in a statement. “Matt and I are excited about the opportunities this alliance will present for our creators and all the amazing content it will empower them to produce for our audience.

It was a stellar weekend for eSports as some of the best StarCraft II players in the world faced off at BlizzCon 2014 to see who would claim the WCS Grand Championship. Starting with highly touted matches such as Bomber vs. MMA, the action quickly reached new levels of competitiion. Through it all, a lone Zerg player represented that last hope for Zerg players to secure a major win in 2014. In the end, it came down to 4 of the best. Taeja, Classic, MMA and Life.
The final match, however, would be one of the most unanticipated and most epic. MMA vs Life in a classic Terran vs. Zerg. Picked to go to the distance and take the full 7 games to decide, Life stunned the casters and the world when he took the series 4-1, claiming the title of WCS World Champion and putting the capstone on a year long comeback of truly amazing proportions.

Life takes home a cool $100,00 in prize money, with MMA netting $50,000. Classic and TaeJa, who placed 3rd and 4th both net $15,000.
If you love eSports, I’d highly recommend watching the VODs of the tournament found on the WCS Twitch page. The level of play was truly amazing, and will mark the last time Heart of the Swarm is used in one of the major tournaments, as Legacy of the Void is nearly upon us.
