Evolve’s forth monster revealed: Behemoth

Turtle Rock Studios have revealed the form of another creature that will be available to play in their 4 v 1 shooter game Evolve, due to release a little later this year. Meet Behemoth.

2778985-2k_behemoth_conceptart

Behemoth of course is the beast that was named by the votes of the gamers a few months ago. Back then we only got to see a silhouette of the creature but now we can see that Behemoth is quite a large, rocky beast and just from that appearance you can already guess the play style the monster player who chooses him will need to use.

Compared to the other beasts, Behemoth’s armour and health pool are several times that of Wraith who was the last creature revealed and are above even Goliath; the first monster that was revealed and widely assumed to be the game’s tanky beast until now. And while the other three rely on varying balances of defence and mobility to survive and evolve Behemoth is designed to take the punishment with his abilities. As expected though, Behemoth is not gifted in the area of mobility so has to be able to take a beating. The standard movement speed is not great, and he can’t actually jump of leave the ground in any way unless he’s climbing up something or falling off it.

However it’s not to say that keeping your distance is a safe tactic for fighting him as a Hunter, oh no. For one thing Behemoth is armed with a spiked tongue that can ensnare and pull in unwary Hunters to face the creature’s long reach and devastating melee damage. Behemoth can also throw up a Rock Wall defence that stops incoming projectiles and if placed right can prevent pulled in foes from fleeing easily. Fissure is an ability that opens a narrow, long fissure in the earth that launches hunters into the air as well as dealing huge damage and Lava Bomb is an ability that allows Behemoth to throw a large projectile that splits into many smaller ones to rain down fiery pain and burns a large area for 15 seconds and has an impressive range that spans around 200 meters.

Finally Behemoth does have one special evasive maneuver up his sleeve, being able to roll up into a ball of hardened earth. He can then roll around to deal some damage, and pick up speed although it’s safe to say his turning circle probably isn’t great so some skill will be needed to use it properly.

Behemoth won’t be available straight away after release, and will be a kind of DLC beast. Those who have pre-ordered will get him free, while anyone else can purchase him for around $14.99. Because Turtle Rock have taken an interesting and fair policy towards DLC though you’ll still be able to play against other people who own him though if you don’t own him yourself.

Guild Wars 2 trailer brings Living World Season 2 to a Close!

GW2 logo

Thar be DRAGONS here…

Next Tuesday, Guild Wars 2 will receive the eighth—and last—episode of the Living World: Season 2. Point of No Return launches on 13 January, and in preparation ArenaNet have released this here trailer.

As is the way of things, the first minute or so is footage of previously released episodes. The actual contents of episode eight are, as yet, unknown. The big, roaring plant dragon at the end is probably a good hint, however.

Here’s the way of things as they stand: Caithe has Glint’s dragon egg, the Pact are preparing an assault on Mordremoth, and the player has discovered a big ol’ ominous tomb. To summarise, things are pretty lore up ins.

At a guess, the dragon seen at the end of the video looks a lot like Shadow of the Dragon, who was last seen bothering the Pale Tree at the end of episode four. There’s every chance he’s a boss at the end of the story—it seems a bit soon to face Mordremoth himself. We do somewhat hope that he’s planned as another World Boss. We’ve not had a new one of them since Season One’s Triple Wurm and Twisted Marionette fights and things are getting a little boring.

ArenaNet will be revealing what comes after Season 2 later this month at PAX South. A presentation, titled Beyond The Point of No Return, is scheduled to take place on 24 January.

Forza6_KeyArt_Vertical_v1_RGB

The new year may have just begun but already there is major news to announce for the Forza world: Forza Motorsport 6 is coming!

Today, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios officially announced Forza Motorsport 6, which is in development and will be arriving exclusively on Xbox One. The news came alongside the announcement of the worldwide debut of the all-new Ford GT, which will serve as the cover car for Forza Motorsport 6. In addition, Ford’s performance vehicle line-up will appear in Forza Motorsport 6. This includes the GT, Shelby GT350 Mustang, and the F-150 Raptor, debuted by Ford earlier today at the auto show. As First in Forza vehicles, Forza fans will have the opportunity to drive these cars when they debut in Forza 6.

“Just as Ford has pushed the boundaries of car technology in GT, Forza Motorsport 6 will embrace that spirit of innovation as our most technically advanced racing simulation to date, offering a fun and realistic automotive experience for both car lovers and gamers,” said Dan Greenawalt, creative director at Turn 10 Studios. “We’re excited to unveil gameplay at E3 in June.”

The announcement of Forza Motorsport 6 kicks off 2015 and the ten-year anniversary of the Forza Motorsport series. This year promises to be the busiest and biggest in Forza history and we’ll have much more to say about Forza 6 and more of our exciting plans in the future. Stay tuned to www.forzamotorsport.net and the official Forza Hub app on Xbox One for all the latest news!

PTR 6.1 Indicates World Of Warcraft May Go Free To Play

Wow-Warlords of Draenor

Dataminers may have found evidence in the information for World of Warcraft’s upcoming Patch 6.1 that indicates the developers are planning for a new free-to-play option.

The recently discovered data files with references to a “Veteran Edition” are noted to resemble those for the already existing Trial Edition that allows everyone to play from level 1 to 20 for free. Like the Trial Edition, the Veteran appears to have limits as information in the files show a level cap, money cap and chat restrictions.

What all of this actually means is unknown at present, but Superior Realities suggests that it may be a system to allow subscribed players with lapsed accounts to continue playing with restrictions.

What do you think?  Can you see WoW going free to play?  If it does, what do you think non-subscribers would lose access to?

Mojang put a date on name-changes: Feb 4th

Today on their site’s blog Mojang announced that something Minecraft players have been waiting for is soon about to make its way to the game!

… No, it’s not the Mod API. It’s the ability to change your in-game name!

minecraft_landscape

The change is due to be rolled out on February 4th and as long as you already have a Mojang account it’s free to do. The option to change the name will be a little link on the Mojang account page with the ‘change’ option next to your current in-game name.

You can only grab unused names though, and once you change your name you can’t do it again for another 30 days. But no worries if you want to change back, names previously in use are held for 37 days before they become up for grabs so as long as you’re on the ball you won’t lose your username if you regret the change. Mojang are also freeing up old unpaid account names for use, so if you have one now’s the time to go and buy it!

The system gives each account an identifier that’s separate from the display name so if a user’s been banned for a server they’ll stay banned, as well as accounts retaining inventories and other things across name changes. Mojang hope that the system will be simple enough for mod users to encode with for their own mods.
