Well, that Patch 4 has been released for Assassin’s Creed Unity. And fittingly, it’s come with yet another problem for Ubisoft.
The regular patch is already fairly large at 6.7 GB to fix most if not all of the rest of the issues with the game. Somehow though they’ve made a mistake with the Xbox One version which means users will end up redownloading the entire game. All 40GB worth of it. Yikes.

Writing about the issue on the official Assassin’s Creed site Ubisoft stated “Unfortunately, an issue with the patch downloading process is replacing the entire game instead of just the parts affected by the patch. This is obviously not the expected behavior, and we apologize that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download.”
They went on to say they are working with Microsoft to find the problem so the download size can be cut down and that at the moment they have no ETA on when players can expect this to be. However if you own the disc version, you can simply uninstall then reinstall and it should download and install just the 6.7 GB patch instead of trying to download the whole game over again.
Patch 4 comes with many fixes, including some to framerate and performance issues that required an entire rebuild of the Paris map which accounts for the large size even of just the patch alone.

Microsoft have a bit of a reputation for not being wonderfully indie-friendly with their consoles, a reputation they’ve been trying to change recently. However, there are some suggestions that they still have quite a ways to go.
A few months ago they neglected to pay some indie developers who had published their games on the Xbox Live Indie Games Market their rightful share of the revenue from sales. They give themselves a fairly lengthy 45 days before payment can be considered ‘late’ and they exceeded that by about a week before those developers got paid. And now, it’s happened again but this time it’s already 19 days late. Oh dear.

To sum up what should happen, the Market was meant to be a self-publishing option. Games are passed by peer review, allowed to be sold on the system and each quarter Microsoft pay the developers their portion of the money taken. The quarter concerned here is the Q3 one, which was due to be paid September 30th. Although developers were told that payment might be a few days late, at this stage quite a few of the developers are rightfully beginning to ask where their money is. There’s even rumours that similar payment issues are taking place for developers of apps and games for Windows Phones.
Even speaking to developers on our Indie Game Show, we know that Microsoft was not doing enough to attract the developers to release games on their consoles, and with this on top of the parity policy that means indie games need to release first on Xbox One or release at the same time across all platforms you have to wonder how Microsoft is hoping to improve their reputation among the Indie community.
Microsoft have released a public statement calling this incident an “unfortunate error” and saying that they are working hard to resolve it and get the money to the developers who are missing it.

Evolve’s gameplay mechanic for a 5 player game sets 4 of those players against the lone 1, with that 1 playing what is essentially the ‘boss’ monster. The Hunters are there to trap the Monster, the Monster needs to eat and evolve to better lay down some hurt onto the Hunters. There was an Alpha back at the start of the month for both Xbox and PC and Turtle Beach have been looking over the records to see how matches went.
Out of all the matches played it seems that the Hunter team won more often with there being around a 200,000 victory difference between a Hunter win and a Monster win. To be exact, it’s a 753,414 Hunter victories opposed to 574,079 Monster victories, which can feel a bit disconcerting when you realise that the Hunters are essentially harassing the poor creature on its native habitat.

Other stats reveal that the Assault class was the most popular class to play as, just beating out playing as the Monster itself. Simple as the Assault is to use, I’m a little bit surprised that the appeal of smashing your friends to a pulp and toasting them with fiery breath didn’t result in the monster being most popular.
Matches lasted all kinds of lengths of time, and would be down to how well the Monster player was able to evade the Hunter and how well the Hunters worked together as a team. The longest match on record was around 40 minutes long and I can only imagine how much chasing occurred during it.
Evolve will be released in the new year, around the February mark.
