Next Game of Thrones game: Sons of Winter

Telltale are currently responsible for episodic games of quite a few different story-based games. One of the current ones is based on the Game of Thrones universe and already has three episodes out. Now the forth has been announced through a tweet revealing the poster. The name is Sons of Winter.

The poster itself features the Wall and fans of the TV show will know that as these games take place at the same time as the events we’re watching on screen, we’re probably fast approaching the notable moment for the Night’s Watch atop the Wall. Season 4 saw an attack at the Wall by wildlings and it seems that this event might play a part in Sons of Winter.

Currently the only word we have on a release date for the episode is ‘soon’. Keep your eyes peeled for an actual date of release soon.

Beyond Earth gets its first DLC: Rising Tides

The Civilization games are fairly well liked. The most recent entry into it though suffered from being that game to follow a popular predecessor. Civ V once fitted with its DLC entries was a very good game, and Beyond Earth fell a little short of capturing me in the same way.

Now however Firaxis have announced the first DLC for Beyond Earth, entitled Rising Tide. As the name suggests it adds a lot to the game that is mainly based upon embarking upon alien seas to allow for colonisation of the ocean as well as mine resources from it. It’ll also expand the role of diplomacy among other new features:

  • Building floating settlements and accessing natural resources hidden beneath the seas of the alien planet, while alien beasts with unique abilities inhabit the water and challenge players in distinctive ways
  • Shaping the diplomatic landscape by upgrading traits, changing diplomatic relationships, and leveraging the benefits of your allies, all with political capital
  • Unlocking a dynamic set of Diplomatic Traits while activating different combinations in response to the changing world
  • Playing as one of four new factions, including the Al Falah, a group of nomad explorers descended from wealthy and resilient Middle Eastern states
  • Investing in multiple Affinities to unlock hybrid Affinity units and upgrades for the first time;
  • Collecting and combining alien relics via a new Artifact System that unlocks powerful benefits
  • Exploring one of two new biomes, Primordial world, an untamed biome rife with volcanic activity and indicative of a chaotic landscape still forming in the new world

Riding Tide will be releasing this Autumn and will retail at around £20.

Oculus to focus on high quality Windows release

After revealing the system requirements they recommend to be able to use the second version of their Oculus Rift headset, Oculus have made a further blog post to inform users that they’ve taken the decision t0 puase development on the OS X and Linux versions of the hardware in order to focus more on developing a high-end Windows model.

The blog posted, written by chief architect and technical director Atman Binstock explained the reasoning on Oculus’ end. Basically they want to be sure they can deliver a high-end experience to the majority of users before they expand into making the headset work on more operating systems.

“Our development for OS X and Linux has been paused in order to focus on delivering a high quality consumer-level VR experience at launch across hardware, software, and content on Windows.” stated Binstock. “We want to get back to development for OS X and Linux but we don’t have a timeline.”

Massive Chalice given release date

After two years of development time, Double Fine has finally given a release date to their turn-based game Massive Chalice. The game will ship with a bunch of improvements as it enters version 1.0 with rebalancing to make the game more challenging and controller support for the Steam version on June 1st.

Writing on the game’s official forums administrator Spaff broke the news to the fans:

“It’s been two years since we started on our quest for the MASSIVE CHALICE, and we’re excited to say that our journey is nearly at an end! After many months of designing, building, reading through our early access feedback, and playing the game for hours on end, we’re finally in lockdown. That means the team is in the final stages now; working purely on bug fixing, performance, and polishing things up, in between sending builds off to Microsoft for certification.”

To celebrate the launch the Double Fine Twitch will be streaming the game on the day of release, so if you’re unsure make sure you catch that to help you make up your mind.

Divinity: Original Sin releases Enhanced Version

Divinity: Original Sin, a PC game that was released last year, has been announced to have ports coming to both the Xbox One and the Playstation 4. It’ll be an overhauled version of the original and what’s more, it’s also coming to PC!

Divinity: Original Sin: Enhanced Edition will be free for all owners of the original game and is essentially the result of a patch gone too far according to developer Larian. Developed for over a year, the re-release will overhaul the graphics and add a 360 camera as well as an entirely new ending, new game modes, locations and quests. DirectX 11 will be supported, although support for 32-bit Windows will be dropped.

The vanilla version will remain available for those unwilling or unable to upgrade their game too.
