Thus far, Microsoft has kept out of the war for tablet superiority, but teased some killer concepts with the unveiling of Windows 8. The list of hardware to match the operating system is a short one, but at TechEd 2011 Microsoft showed off a super powered quad-core tablet that may be joining the party.

Aside from the processor structure, little else was revealed at the "Windows Device Session" where Microsoft also brought up a number of Windows Phone 7 devices and another unnamed tablet. An attendee reported that the high-powered tablet was running Windows 7 but, with its release coming soon, we wouldn't be surprised if the new device gets the Windows 8 treatment.
An official announcement of the mystery quad-core tablet is expected to occur at Microsoft's BUILD conference in September.
