I’ve never exactly been into playing games like Euro Truck Simulator 2, but watching other people play them is quite funny. It accounts for some of the minor popularity of that game and its cousin American Truck Simulator I’d dare say. Now, SCS Software are working on an update to both games that will add Steam Workshop support.
Euro Truck Simulator 2’s update 1.23 and American Truck Simulator’s update 1.2 will add this feature, and even though the functionality is currently undergoing some internal testing mod-makers are already creating assets. SCS Software say that they are “looking forward” to sharing the results through a beta once it’s ready to be released to a wider audience, and that the beta will be coming in a “couple of weeks”.
If you’re a modder who wants to get involved there will be a free Steam app released called the SCS Workshop Uploader to help make the process simpler – the developer is currently making a Wiki resource where all the information will be available for you to pick through.
The Valve-supported HTC Vive has today gone up for pre-ordering, but for a much higher price than its most well-known rival the Oculus Rift.
While they differ from region to region, the price of the Vive is above the Oculus’ new Rift headset which has been taking pre-orders for a little while now. For the US, including postage and all that other stuff that isn’t the price of the device alone the Vive will cost $829; the UK has the price set at £746.60 and the EU prices are somewhere around €972. This does mean that effectively the UK and Europe are having to pay a lot more for their tech than the US. It’s also far out matched by the Rift’s $599 price tag.
The Vive will come with the headset, some controllers to detect hand motions and three apps – Fantastic Contraption, Job Simulator and Google’s Tilt Brush drawing program; so there are some things there to justify it being more expensive than the Oculus is. The fact that Oculus were bought out by Facebook probably helps them keep the price down as well.
Either way, if you’ve got a lot of money to blow and would like to give the Vive a go, head over to the pre-ordering page.
XCOM 2’s been pretty popular since its release, with most people agreeing that it’s a challenging step up from the previous Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within games. Of course, as with most games with Steam Workshop support if you’re not fully satisfied you can do a little modding of the game to tweak it to something you’ll enjoy more. And an awful lot of those mods are cosmetic pieces.
One such cosmetic mod you might enjoy, especially if you’re a fan of the Star Wars films, is a set of helmets for your troops, based off those of the Stormtroopers and various others seen in the films. Developed by Steam user Platoon you can choose from either the original trilogy’s helmets or the newer First Order inspired ones if you’re in the mood for something iconically Empire-themed, or if that doesn’t take your fancy how about helmets based off those of a Republic Commando, a Tie Fighter pilot, a Flametrooper or even a Clone Trooper Phase 1 helmet? There’s even colour and camo customisation options so that you can make the helmets fit the rest of your soldier’s attire.
Platoon is also working on improving them all the time, at the moment improving the textures of the helmets and is even working on a full-scale armour mod based off the Star Wars armours so you can really feel like you’re playing in a galaxy far, far away.
