Movie Review: Dredd 3D

In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

Dredd 3D

THIS is the Judge Dredd film we have been waiting for!

It's gritty, uses real social tensions that are going on in the world right now, over crowding, unemployment, gang culture, drugs, etc and makes the film believable and available to anyone, even those with no idea who Judge dredd is

Karl Urban does an amazing job as Dredd himself, and just as in the comics DOES NOT take his helmet off…  He never does in the comics and shouldn;t int eh film and the grittyness Urban brings to the role is perfect

Olivia Thirlby (who I have honestly never heard of before) plays rookie Judge Anderson, known in the comics as the PsiOps and also a love interest for Dredd later on in thier carriers, but in the film,. it's her first day on the job

Lena Headey, most notable as Sarah Connor int eh Terminator tv series plays Ma-Ma, the leader of the Ma-Ma gang that run the Peach trees Mega Block and the sadist that will happily kill anyone that gets in her waqy as a message, including hiring rogue Judges to take out Dredd and Anderson

This film is brilliant on so many levels, even the 3D is spectacular and combined with the uber high speed footage used in teh drug SLO-MO moments really emphasys what is happening in all the gory detail

and yes, this film is gory, but realistic, the high speed slo-mo shots show the bullets paths through the enemies in gunfights, it shows the shockwaves of explosions on the bodies, its gruesome yet easily watchable

If you haven;t seen this film?  Go watch it on the big screen, it is the perfect example of a perfect comicbook film made for the BIG screen!

10/10
