Fans Create Original Pokemon Adventure In Minecraft

Pixelmon is a very popular Minecraft mod. It basically implements Pokemon into Minecraft, removing a lot of the Minecrafty elements for convenience of finding, catching and training your team. Of course, it is a mod and quite a sizeable one at that. So what do you do if you’re no good at modding Minecraft? Play a map of course.

Made for vanilla Minecraft 1.8.8, Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst is a map that makes use of command blocks and was built by a team of players. The project took them about a year and a half to make and was based around trying to replicate things as they were back in the original game of 1996 – although in an original region (Suliqu) with unique stories and 136 new Pokemon that mixes in a few of the later gen Pokemon with the originals. It is however only available in singleplayer right now, so no link cable simulation I’m afraid.

Developer Phoenix SC claims that the game has a playtime of about 60-80 hours and features “an antagonist threatening to release a legendary darkness that demands tribute.” The criminal team in this game won’t be Team Rocket, Magma, Galactic or any of the other gangs from the official games – this time they’re Team Tempest.

Of course, fan-made content is wonderful but Nintendo have a reputation of stamping out the more popular and noticeable fan-made creations. Pokemon Uranium was one of the biggest to fall, only last year after fans spent hours on its development. Cobalt and Amethyst do make use of sounds borrowed from Red and Blue as well as other assets so it remains to be seen whether Cobalt and Amethyst will avoid the DMCA takedowns.

If you’re interested in playing Pokémon Cobalt and Amethyst for yourself, you can download the map here. See the video below about how to install it if you’re unsure:

Lego Worlds Release Delayed

Lego Worlds is hoping to be Lego’s answer to Minecraft. The game was supposed to be releasing in February but the studio behind it, Traveller’s Tales have announced that it’s going to be slightly delayed for – polish. What else?

In an announcement via the Steam page for Lego Worlds, they said that they “weren’t happy with a few things keeping us from entering Certification”, so the game is going to be pushed back slightly to make sure it’s fit for release and up to the standard that Lego fans expect from their Lego titles.

Lego Worlds has been in Steam Early Access since June of 2015, which is quite a while. To make up for the slight delay, Traveller’s Tales are going to be rewarding all their devoted players with a free copy of the Lego World soundtrack as well as a special in-game hat that will be available to players once the full game launches in the character customiser.

As mentioned above, Lego Worlds aims to be like Minecraft, with big procedurally generated worlds filled with bricks and Lego models, as well as mini-figs. There’s a big multi-tool which allows for the forming of large chunks of land at once, something that you can only do in Minecraft with help of mods. Mind you, who doesn’t play Minecraft these days without at least one mod installed?

Lego Worlds is available on Steam for $14.99/£11.99.

Dust2 Map Seeing Break From Active Competitive Duty For CS:GO

Following the closing of the ELEAGUE Major, Valve has announced in a post that fan-favourite map Dust2 will be seeing a little break from Active Duty in CS:GO for the foreseeable future. Instead, Inferno which has been recently reworked will be taking its place in the competitive rotation and will appear at the next CS:GO Major.

This means that for a while Dust2 will no longer be seen or used at future CS:GO tournaments. However, this doesn’t mean it’s gone – it is still accessible in both casual and deathmatch games. Heck, it even has its own category on the Competitive Matchmaking screen, it’s that popular of a map. So this is just a little retirement from competitive play, nothing else.

Inferno is the second map that has been reworked to rejoin Active Duty, following on from Nuke’s rework and readdition during 2016. This could mean that Dust2 could be the next up for a re-work, as the map is now 16 years old at this point. It’s not been confirmed, but as it’s such a favourite Valve are hardly going to be dropping it or leaving it out of competitive play for good.

ZeniMax Could Temporarily Stop Oculus Rift Sales

You might have heard that ZeniMax and Oculus have been in court recently. ZeniMax was alleging that id Software founder John Carmack used some data that belonged to ZeniMax to help develop the Oculus Rift, and it does seem that there was some wrongdoing involved because a judge awarded the lawsuit in ZeniMax’s favour to the tune of half a billion dollars over a breach of NDA. Now ZeniMax have said they might go a step further

In a statement provided to Polygon, ZeniMax said they may seek an injunction to temporarily stop the sale of Oculus Rift headsets. If they’re successful, this could put a real spanner in the works of Oculus’ plans as they attempt to keep control in a growing VR market that right now they’re no longer the only player doing well in.

“We will consider what further steps we need to take to ensure there will be no ongoing use of our misappropriated technology, including by seeking an injunction to restrain Oculus and Facebook from their ongoing use of computer code that the jury found infringed ZeniMax’s copyrights.

“While we regret we had to litigate in order to vindicate our rights, it was necessary to take a stand against companies that engage in illegal activity in their desire to get control of new, valuable technology.”

Oculus themselves are planning an appeal against the case they just lost, and Carmack has come out since the result denying that he destroyed data when leaving ZeniMax – another point of contention brought up during the lawsuit.

Fallout Shelter Coming To Xbox And Windows Store

One of the most popular mobile games in recent years was Bethesda Game Studio’s Fallout Shelter, released in the run-up to Fallout 4. The game later came to other platforms, such as the PC through a launcher of Bethesda’s own and now it’s due to be listed on both the Xbox and Windows Store.

If you somehow missed out on it, Fallout Shelter puts you in control of your own Vault shelter, building rooms to supply needs, putting your Vault Dwellers to work, earning caps and taking in new Dwellers as they arrive, as well as making an entire new generation. There’s also the option to arm your Dwellers against attacks from Raiders, Radroaches as well as to send them out on expeditions to gather supplies. Since its release other things have been added to the game such as Crafting, Pets, Scrapping and many more, including iconic characters from Fallout games as special Dwellers.

The game will be made available on both Stores from February 7th as a free download, as well as being an Xbox Play Anywhere title which means if you have it on your Xbox One you should also have it on your Windows 10 PC as well.
