With Cities Skylines’ new After Dark expansion on its way at the end of this month, Paradox Interactive are using their forums to keep their users up to date on what they can expect from the expansion. The third one was posted on Thursday and dealt with changes to existing systems as well as some additional content to expect.
One of the areas tweaked was that of Police and Crime. The current system made it possible to get crime low and have it stay low as long as the inhabitants of the city were happy enough, as well as citizens who were unhappy moving out of the cities instead of staying put long enough to reach the point they would turn to crime. After Dark will introduce a new crime system in which the crime rate will fluctuate a little more realistically as well as adding a new building: Prisons. These will hold convicted criminals for the length of their sentence (because as they note currently the police force in Cities are ‘never wrong or corrupted’) which will be around 15 weeks on average.

Public Transport is also getting a new building, the Bus Station. This will allow for the stopping of multiple buses in a smaller area so inhabitants can change lines quickly and easily without causing traffic foul-ups. The Taxi Cab is also being introduced as a new transport option as it was missing previously from the game. They will make tourists stay in the city a little longer, earning you more income for their stay. Another form of transport comes in the form of what Paradox are calling the largest building in-game so far, the International Airport. And to save public transport queues, it comes with a built-in metro station to connect up to a metro network and give your inhabitants an easy way to arrive and depart the airport.
Finally the cargo part of the game is getting a little overhaul to save on traffic, with a Cargo Hub being added to harbours to cut down on the long busy roads of trucks between the industry areas and the harbour for those who exported a load of goods from their cities.
As a player of this game, all of this sounds very good. Always a fan of anything that cuts down on traffic and makes transport more efficient, and a more diverse Crime system can only be fun. After Dark will release worldwide on September 24th 2015.
