Twitch plays Punch Club onto Steam in 36 hours

So, a few days ago a studio called Lazy Bear Games started up a Twitch channel for their upcoming punch-em-up game, Punch Club. It was called TwitchPlaysPunchClub in that tradition of TwitchPlays channels.

While TwitchPlay channels are nothing new, the first being TwitchPlaysPokemon and having since moved onto other games, there was a purpose behind this TwitchPlays channel. Until the Twitch community completed Punch Club, Lazy Bear Games wouldn’t actually release the game… well, until January 25th at least. Whichever came first would set the game’s release date. The game’s page on Steam even listed the release date as “When Twitch beats it”. Seriously.

Expectations were set at a week, but the Twitch community obviously loves a challenge, because after just 36 hours the game was beaten. Which means Punch Club is now available on Steam to buy. It’s a game about doing all the right things (training, eating, resting etc.) to ensure you become the best boxer ever, working your way up the ranks.

Using the TwitchPlays craze to essentially promote the game was quite a bold move by Lazy Bear Games, but it seems to have paid off if the time taken to beat it verses the expected time is any indication. If you’re interested, you can find it on Steam now for £7/$10.
