Kickstarter Gaming Round-Up: Feb 6th

It’s time for your weekly look into what the Gaming section of Kickstarter has to offer in the way of awesome campaigns.

Starting as always with a little update to those previously covered in past weeks, we still have only a few bits of news but it’s all quite positive. Firstly, Pixel Princess Blitz has entered its last two days of campaign but has far outstripped its target, now sitting at €90,695 of a €77,700 goal. LEGRAND LEGACY is also close to finishing with less than £6,000 to go of its £40,000 target to be made. Finally, The Pedestrian has reached $15,236 pledged of its $21,000 goal with 9 more days to go.

Sunless Skies

First up, we have the most awaited sequel game to Sunless Seas.

Set in the same universe as the last game, Sunless Skies takes you to the ‘skies’ of the underground caverns that form the creepy and  Victorian-inspired world of the Fallen London universe. Set 10 years after Seas, the 20th century came and London took to the skies, in spacefaring locomotives, journeying far, encountering much and fighting off more horrors in the darkness. Just like its brother, you will be able to stop at ports and encounter people, events and much more.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Sunless Skies has already met its Kickstarter goal of £100,000 twice over. It still has 24 days to go though, so check it out.

BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION

Next up, we have a post-apocalyptic isometric game.

A new idea from the creators of STATIS, previously Kickstarted in 2013, and CAYNE; BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION is an adventure game set after some disaster. The game is point-and-click and follows two brothers as they journey across this broken world, with a distinctly 1980s inspired feel.

BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION has a $120,000 of which it has raised $87,955 so far. It has 11 more days to go.

Aegis: Innocence

Next up is a platformer, which makes you a teddy bear.

A 2D action platformer, you play as a teddy with a sword and shield confronting your nightmares. This teddy is actually a guardian, one of the many who have guarded humanity over the years from the darkness of the world of nightmares. Only this time, the nightmares are strong and your human is on the brink of death. You must now venture into the darkness to fight back and save your human.

Aegis: Innocence has 29 days to go, and has made $6,695. It has a target of $60,000.

Die For Valhalla!

Finally we finish with a beat ’em up game with Viking inspirations.

You play as a witch called Valkyrie, sent by the gods to help the Vikings save their world from peril. You do this by summoning heroes from Valhalla, in a bid to take down as many enemies as possible before they succumb and return there. You will also have a chance to discover more about your own origins as well as Viking myth and legend. Things aren’t always as they seem to be.

With 30 days to go, Die For Valhalla has made $3,957 of its $5,600 goal.

Bethesda Announce The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind

In a livestream a short while ago, Bethesda streamed out the announcement of the ‘next chapter’ of The Elder Scrolls Online – The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind.

Set in the same area of Morrowind as the game of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (the Isle of Vvardenfell) and recreated in the modern era using the original game’s height map, this new content will see players questing through locations they remember from the old game – only 700 years before any of The Elder Scrolls III ever happened. This new area will be one of the largest added to the game so far, and will include areas such as the docks of Seyda Neen, to the volcanic Ashlands, to dense, mushroom-filled forests, and through the glory of Vivec City which is still under construction in this time period.

The new update to the game will also bring with it a new class for players to choose – the Warden. As noted in the stream the Warden is a class that is more tied to natural magics and can specialise in one of three different ways; the ice magic/defensive path, the nature magic/healing patch, or the one that was featured heavily in the trailer – the animal companion path. The war bear was called the ‘ultimate’ of that last line, with talk around morphing abilities to give the bear a boost in power or automatically resummon it when it falls in combat. The animal companion will also persist until death, even across zones and can be healed or buffed.

The main questline of the Morrowind addition involves the legendary warrior-poet and Guardian of Vvardenfell Vivec, who has begun to lose power thanks to a mysterious illness and needs your help to solve the source of the illness, restore him to full strength and fight off threats against the world. There will also be a new trial for end-game players, as well as a new PvP mode called Battlegrounds that will be focused on team play. On launch there will be 3 maps and 3 gamemodes to choose from, and all will be 4 v 4 v 4 types, for small, fast-paced team battles and events.

As you might expect, there will be a few different versions of this being released. The Standard Edition will retail at £39.99 and will include the base game of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, as well as the new Morrowind content. If you already own the base game, there will be an Upgrade Edition for £29.99 to upgrade existing players. A Digital Collector’s Edition will also be released for £64.99, containing the base game, new content as well as a bunch of digital in-game rewards that include a special grey War Bear for Warden players to use, a Dwarven Spider Pet, an Armoured War Horse and a converter for Morag Tong-themed gear. These digital rewards can also be acquired through the Digital Collector’s Upgrade at £49.99. Finally there will be a physical Collector’s Edition of the game sold at £89.99, which will include a bunch of physical items such as Naryu’s Journal – an artbook with lore added, a 12′ tall Dwarven Colossus Statue and an exclusive game case.

There is also a pre-order ‘Discovery Pack’ which will contain experience scrolls to allow for greater in-game experience gain for around two hours at a time, an exclusive Warden appearance, Treasure Maps of where the best secrets are hidden, a Dwarven War Dog Pet and a Dwarven Crown Crate which comes with a chance to contain Dwarven-themed mounts, pets, costumes, and more.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind will be releasing globally for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One on June 6th, 2017.

Double Dragon IV Announced

Arc System Works have announced that a new installment for the retro beat ’em up series Double Dragon is being worked on and in fact is due out very, very soon. Acting as a direct sequel to Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones, Double Dragon IV is done in a more 8-bit style that harkens back to the old school pixel art of the original NES game.

There’s been a trailer released for it too:

The story is suitably 80s-esque. The brothers are attacked in the desert by a biker gang known as the Renegades and Billy’s girlfriend is kidnapped and held hostage by the shadowy and mysterious Okada clan. The game will see Billy and Jimmy travelling across the world and beating up all they come across with both fist and foot.

The game will come with the expected and traditional local co-op game mode in which you can tag team the levels with your friend; but will also come with a 2-player competitive mode that sees the brother fighting each other, a Challenge Tower mode that lets to battle your way through levels of enemies to try and reach as high as you possibly can. Also during the Challenge Tower, you can unlock certain bosses from the story mode after you pass a certain point – with a secret boss available if you reach the top.

Double Dragon IV will be releasing at the end of the month, on January 30th. Check out the Steam page for more information.
